And that leads to the bigger issue here -- this isn't about drafting your dream team or building a supergroup, this is about the right person for the job. A lot of times that person is not necessarily the most skilled or the most likable, but they bring out the best in the others. As a unit, certain groupings shine more than others even if on paper they seem imperfect. It doesn't matter if Fortus is more skilled than Izzy, or if Buckethead is 10 times the guitarist Slash is -- neither of those guys are the right fit for Guns. It's weird to me how Slash acknowledges that the weaving guitar interplay between him and Izzy was a large part of AFD being so great and yet he seems unwilling to replicate that since. Are any of these guys actually interested in making a great record or are their musical collaborations predicated mainly on money and convenience? Fortus being on a Guns record would be a travesty. We all know he didn't really want equal pay it was just a matter of "principle". This is a guy with intergrity. He probably would have burn't his equal "loot" or gave it to charity. The guy just wants to play guitar and let others shine. Slash has also said he doesn't like playing with izzy. He contradicts himself and/or changes his opinion, so you might have your answer there. People (not exactly Maynard, he hates Axl with a passion) always try to make it look like Axl is THE irreplaceable one and it's hilarious considering reality proved he's not the only guy who can't be replaced (except, obviously, from a legal standpoint as he owns the brand). Some Axl fans are masters at taking what the original band did for granted and pretending Axl could have done that or something better without them. Like Axl gave those four not so talented dudes a career... Yet, somehow he only managed to release ONE album since Izzy, Slash and Duff left and the band got more and more irrelevant as years went by. Slash coming back (without new music or anything) turned an irrelevant band into one of the biggest bands in the world again. That by itself proves how irreplaceable he is, no matter what some people like to think. And the fact that even when they're not willing to pay Izzy what he wants/deserves and want to move on without him, they still have to play a setlist full of songs Izzy had a hand in writing shows how extremely important he is to the band as well. It's beyond clear that a just Appetite tour, even just a show, hell one freaking song between just the original 5 will probably never happen. Two choices: CHOICE 1: Slash Ashba Fortus CHOICE 2: Slash Izzy Fortus Obviously we would all prefer only two guitars but if it came down to it... Choice two it is for me at least. Not even close. Axl compromised a little, it looks like Duff and Slash both significantly compromised. As a fan, I too can compromise. And at least with Izzy back in it, too many guitarists or not, we'd have a shot at new music. While it filled out Jungle, Chinese, Sweet Child songs like This I Love, Don't Cry and really the ballads didn't utilize 3 guitarists at all and it became kind of a waste. But I liked the idea of 3 guitarists- you got your Bucket/Bumble, the technical shredder and Finck as the emotional, Slash-like player. It really could have worked well if NuGNR didn't crash and burn into the ground. Now, a 3 guitarist approach would be useless as the 2 guitarist approach works quite well with Slash and Fortus, an excellent rythym player and a great fit for guns. Sorry, but Slash never would have went with the 3 guitarist aproach. You seriously think he would have stood on stage watching someone else do his parts? He's not Steven.
