Popular Post DeadHorseinaComa
So, the ears are still buzzing from the noise and I got two hours worth of car sleep but I'll give my own review of the show! The venue management was a joke, more than 32 degrees Celsius and by noon they still hadn't figured out where people were supposed to get in line, but that's my country's organization to y'all folks. Still, Circo Massimo Is nothing short of a wonderful venue (albeit very very dusty - so much that after Pretenders they had a bunch of guys vacuuming the floors with Dyson thingies) in the absolutely mesmerizing Rome, so it was pretty much a perfect fit for the show. The show was simply kickass, about 45k people and the performance stepped up to the plate! The band as a whole confirmed that even if they're getting old they're completely on another level than the current standards of live music performances these days. The setlist was perfectly paced by starting with an electric and fast first half that gives slowly way to the classics with some Deep cuts spread here and there. Axl was firing on full cylinders and compared to last year not only he was less bloated and cracking jokes (), he had a sort of almost manic energy that I never saw him have in my other previous shows, AC/DC included. Vocally you can tell (especially if you saw him in 2016 or earlier) that he's losing a bit of power, but you can also tell that he's playing around and finding out where he can push with his new range. So where he lacks he tries to make up with some enunciation tricks (Hard School verses come to mind) or by giving a full effort in a clean higher voice. All in all he sounded really solid and while his voice used to cut through the band and the arena now it's consistent in a way that maybe wasn't before, and it actually sits in a good place between the instruments and Melissa/Duff. He was dancing, running around and owning the stage in a way that a 60 years old guy shouldn't be physically able to do in any way imaginable! Loved him I thought Slash was a bit more focused on his playing and gave a clean performance, his status and sound carries part of the show by itself even though he maybe improvised some stuff in places where in the past he wouldn't. One of my biggest surprises was to see how Richard, Frank and Duff really gelled and interacted together in giving a very thick but very tasteful backbone to the band, they are the definition of tight and I didn't imagine they had this good of a chemistry together. The whole show was a joy to behold, and it really gives a vibe of having the right amount of improvisation in a really well crafted setlist routine, meaning that you could see the band choosing on the spot which song to play in places but still keeping an eye to the pace and flow of the show. I guess all I can say is that the band and the show are really really worth the money and the effort to get to see them, they gave it their all and most of all you could feel their love in playing and giving a show to the people! Now a bit of biased opinions and Little tidbits: - I really think they found a nice staple to Rocket Queen and KOHD, the former is now well paced and has a very funky vibe, the latter Is wonderful in a way that gives 2006's version a run for its Money - Fortus Is fucking amazing, truly underrated and was happy to see him buddy-buddy with Duff and Slash - Gonna repeat myself, but I really didn't think that Duff, Frank and Richard got on so well, they really are interacting most of the time between themselves while leaving Axl and Slash to do their frontmen stuff - Axl was very talkative and joking around, although I think he was getting pissed off at times because of technical issues - which Pretenders had as well - or some other stuff, you could see him talk a whole lot on the mic and the band members suddendly turning to him in a puzzled way, especially during Wichita. Nonetheless he was joking around with the band wives and friends, he really had a playful vibe - While Axl and Slash rarely interact with each other while playing, you can see them joke and discuss between each other between songs from time to time, I nearly died out laughing when after Paradise City coming back on stage Slash just fucking chucked a full bottle of water into the crowd, Axl had a laugh too cause he clearly could've gave someone a fucking concussion in the way he had thrown the thing - The Berlusconi bit before PTU was hilarious, nonsense taking It seriously - Really can't figure out why people spend hundreds if not a thousand Euros to just sing Sweet Child of Mine and Welcome to the Jungle, not even Nightrain - I didn't know if it's new or not, but Slash's solo Is actually really fucking good! Slash himself tends to hyperfocus and go all in, noodling in places I have to say, the band behind him Is really really tight! Makes me wonder if It was born as a song, but It gives me the vibes of something new wrote together - Axl was clearly dying to wear the gladiator helmet on stage, and repeated the "are you not entertained?" phrase so much and with a shit-eating grin that I'm pretty fucking sure that the idea to put It on the litho was entirely his 14
Popular Post reayj2003
Looking at the pics & Meegan’s insta looks another packed show. The amount of fans at hotels and airports seems really substantial this tour as well. Given the lack of any activity or promotion the band are still doing very well. I read the Glasto effect led to a huge increase on Greatest Hits sales and Sweet Child is in the top 40. Every tour people on here say it won’t sell well…🤣 Edited July 9, 2023 by reayj2003

Not seen them live They did Prostitute in Copenhagen, while it's a great song it didn't fit well as an encore song and Axl was struggling with the vocals. Axl_morris
Axl confirmed the opening lyrics to double talkin jive as a true event. Always thought it was a bit of a myth, but body parts were found in the garbage at the recording studio. "Someone was at the wrong place at the wrong time" That incident is mentioned in the band members autobiographies. Can't remember which, or if it's in all of them. If memory serves it was Izzy that saw the police investigating in the alley near the studio.

There might be something here that could be refined. But the repeated flat bends up the neck is not exactly my taste. Why can't he just do a traditional Slash solo on this song, it's not a difficult song to play over and he is stumbling through, teetering on the edge of falling out out of key with each note. I also despise that he plays right past the end of Axls vocal... Give it a rest! It's personal taste of course... But if this was a new song and this was the recorded solo, less forgiving people would be giving Slash a real hard time. The original solo buys and sells this about 1000 times over. 2
