The James Bond Thread: RIP Robbie Coltrane

James Bond

In other words it's the most "traditional" Bond film that Craig's done so far. I'm okay with that! Now that we've been away from it for a while it'll be a welcome change of pace for the Craig era. I also expected that since Skyfall put the final pieces in place to mould Craig and this era of Bond into the classic era.

Daniel Craig has said he has not made any decisions about whether he will carry on playing James Bond.

The actor, on his fourth outing as 007 in Spectre, had told Time Out magazinethat he would "rather slash [his] wrists" than make a fifth Bond film.

But he told the BBC: "I'm quite straightforward and I say things when I feel it and then I change my mind."

Asked if he had made a decision about carrying on as Bond, Craig added: "No - this is what's going on at the moment. I'm enjoying this."

As we've discussed, Craig does this after every Bond. I'm pretty sure he even bitched after Casino Royale.

He's bitched about it before CR even started filming.

He can complain all he wants, he kills it every time.

I just saw it (and got a nice souvenir ticket with the film logo but it bent in my pocket). I wasn't that impressed with it to be honest, I thought it was clearly inferior to both Casino Royale and Skyfall. Reminded me quite a bit of older Bond films, supervillain, supervillain layer, gadgets, quips, ridiculous plot and other time honoured bond tropes that I won't mention because of spoilers, but with lots of millennial action movie shaky cam. Could work as a finale, but it could also very well continue.

I just saw it a week later than intended!

As a fan of the older movies (in otherwords not being on the movies were crap until Craig joined bandwagon) I liked it. It does seem more like a traditional Bond movie in parts, that's more though due to the references to older movies that will go over most people's heads.

I'd say just over half of the film is pretty good, but the final 3rd is abit lackluster. I expected a bit more to be honest, although others likely won't care that much.

Fortunately they changed a few things from the leaked script, however on the downside there's a few iffy things to be picky about. The retcons to the previous Craig films although understandable, don't make much sense. The trailer gave away way too much and the "connection" is way too forced and completely unnecessary.

It's still very enjoyable, but it could have been a classic.

Too bad they didn't have the rights to Blofled and SPECTRE until now. Otherwise the whole Quantum storyline could have just always been SPECTRE.

Well I have not seen it and I'm in Englandland. It seems a bit muted, the reception. Everyone seems a bit cagey, who has seen it.

I think it is a turd haha! I think they are hiding the fact they were served a GG Allin serving of 007 excrement, but are too polite to say.

It is not a bad film by any means, but you're right it is just a bit lacklustre

EDIT: the Sam Smith song is actually not as bad as I first thought

Spectre is easily the best Bond movie ever for me. I liked Casino Royale and Skyfall from the Craig franchise but this tops both and finally you feel the character is given free range and levity; the mix of action/romance/humor is perfect here. And the villain (and even the main goon) are so cool in a throwback way. I marvelled at the action sequences and locations (the train sequence is a lot of fun).
