Whats the big deal about Vegas?

Recommended Posts

I've seen every incarnation of since 1991 except for the RIR3 lineup. So me, seeing Slash & Axl together again isn't a huge part of the draw.

The short answer for me personally is that a lot of things came together and I'm going to a GNR show.

That show happens to be in my favorite city and a lot of people I talk to on here daily will be there. On top of that, my flights were cheap and my hotel is free.

So all of those things combined make it something I wanted to do. I don't care about being there for the first show as the majority of the reasons I want to go are still in play for the second show.

It will be the first accessible show.. The electricity in the air will be elevated because of that. The wheels could fall off this thing at any time and I want to catch it before they do.

The first show is also adds something special that will overshadow any shortcomings of the lineup, or if Axl sounds like shit... If it is simply Slash and Duff plugged into NuGuns with Pittman and company and the Axl we have seen of late, then the novelty of this "reunion" could wear off quick. This show will be special regardless.

I've decided to go to Vegas out of fear, to be honest. I was waiting on other US dates, but as they haven't been announced yet, I've decided I wasn't going to take the chance of not seing them.

Since I'm not going because it's supposed to be the first shows, I couldn't care less about them doing shows before Vegas. If that's gonna make them sound better in Vegas, they should totally do it.

The big deal is according to many it's the first real GNR show in almost a quarter century. We can argue all day about Izzy and Adler playing or not playing but at the end of the day Slash and Axl will be playing together and that's enough for many. Anyone who thinks there won't be more shows is fooling themselves. At 3 million a pop they'll play as many as they can and laugh all the way to the bank until the demand is no longer there.

Simple answer...its Vegas baby!

slightly more complicated answer...exactly what @RussTCB said except I haven't seen GnR since 1992.  So, seeing your favorite band together again for the first time in 23 years is pretty awesome...literally seeing them the first time they do it makes it even more awesome.

Yeah, I gotta say some other factors helped me made the decision, like it'd be my first trip to the US, I'll get to see Tesla on saturday and The Wild Feathers at the Troubadour in LA the same week and despite being new here, I'm looking foward to the forum meet up!

Also,it's a big deal since (if Billboard is to be believed )most of the other shows will be in stadiums not arenas. I don't know anyone who would prefer a stadium show over an arena though I bet those Mexican fans will be nuts in their stadium. They went crazy for New GNR so they should lose their minds for at least 3/5th's of the real deal.

i'd go if i had the money

it would be a good experience overall not only would i get to see Guns but ive never been to Vegas or even on an Airplane before

This too!  Actually very good point. I'm in Indy and from what I was gathering when I bought my ticket the closest show to my home would be up in Chicago at Soldier Field.  I'd much rather spend the coin I'm spending on a decent seat to see them in an arena as compared to seeing them in a stadium.

not me :P

not that I dislike the idea of seing the first show, but that's just not that important to me. My thing was making sure I got to see them, since these Vegas dates are the only ones we're sure of... it's Vegas, baby!!!

The big deal is obviously Axl Rose and Slash are gonna be sharing a stage again for the first time since the early 90's.

GNR are my favourite band, I've never been to America before let alone Vegas and I'm lucky enough to be able to afford it so why not go?

Does the fact it's maybe gonna be the first show make a difference? Yes of course that factors in. Will it bother me if they play a show before then? Not really.

Im flying out to Vegas to see the most exciting version of guns n roses since the illusions. I'm going on my own and it's gonna be the most spontaneous thing I've ever done.

For every single person in that arena when they hear slash's les Paul ring out the first notes of jungle and hear Axl Rose screech out the opening lines, that right there will be a big deal. Hearing that magic for the first time in decades and something 99% of people thought would never happen is gonna be priceless.

Some quick thoughts:

1- I get that GNR should not advertise falsely so if Vegas is actually advertised as the first show, it should be the first show. And I get that people should be led to believe that they're getting what they paid for. On the other hand even if it isn't, who cares? Just enjoy Vegas and enjoy the shows, it's going to be historic no matter what.

2 - Who even says there's a small show happening yet? Until I see confirmation I won't believe it since this is GNR. We've had nothing but rumors with regard to who is in, who is out, Izzy this and that, pitmans status, tour dates, Eddie money, interviews, announcement dates, etc. and it's just mentally draining me.  So I don't see the point in freaking out until anything is actually confirmed.

In conclusion, props to everyone going to Vegas. Enjoy yourselves. Whether it's the first show or they  play or not it's a dream to many like myself to see the original lineup on stage even if it's only one time.

And to the band, you could literally clear all these questions (and many many more)up in a matter of minutes by doing an interview. Even if you can't answer everything. We don't care if it's Eddie trunk, jimmy kimmel, jimmy Fallon, an online chat, whatever. Just please for the love of god someone give us some answers

I wanted to make this thread a few days back and as people are cluttering the Social media thread, it would be good to talk about it here.

Its cool people are going to Vegas and Honestly I am jealous of them lol, but I really don't get the big deal, Im a big GNR fan, I always wanted to see Axl and Slash together, I even said to myself that I will spend up to $1000 if it happens.

It is supposed to be the first show, but like to some of the people who are especially going, you are going just cause you want to say you went to the first GNR reunion show? or you think they won't do any shows after Coachella? I know all of them are going there to enjoy and have fun, there are a few that are going just cause its the first one.

Personally I am waiting for them to go to Europe so I can hit 2 birds with one stone, its cool people are going to Vegas, but spending so much money, like some people have bought just the tickets for $1000 and up, its cool that you have that kind of money, Im not comparing, but its like some people wait in lines for the Iphone to release and they want to be the first ones to get it, I kinda find that stupid, I'd rather wait for a few weeks till it releases at my place and as long as im happy with it, it doesn't matters If im not the first one.

As there are rumors that they might play a small venue before Vegas, then what is your Opinion/Reaction?

I am going because when it was first announced about them reuniting at Coachella there was no way I would have been able to attend and because I wanted to see them so much; I read that Coachella might be the only place they were going to play. Like I guess Led Zeppelin did that one year? so then I heard they might be doing a tour but there was nothing definite. my husband said if they come by us ( Reno NV ) we could go so when I heard they were going to be in Vegas I HAD to get tickets. this did not really please my husband as he thought they were going to just show up here in Reno and play a local casino or something but I told him this is something I HAVE to do. he is coming to grips with it ( he is not a GN'R fan, yes I know...poor him! ) but he wants me to be happy. so long story short I bought tickets to Vegas cos I want to see Axl &Slash reunited SO MUCH and this may be my only chance!

I've also seen every incarnation of the band since 91.  I never thought this would happen again and was obviously very excited at the news.  I haven't been to Vegas in over 15 years, so I decided to combine the concert with a mini vacation for me and my wife without the kids.  I think people are extremely excited about the possibility of this band reuniting with its original members, vegas is the perfect place to start, so in my mind it's not difficult to see why people are jumping at the chance.  To answer another question in the original thread, I do have doubts that this will stay together long enough to come to a venue closer to me.  If it does, great, I'll go to that too.  If not, I'll be satisfied seeing at least the original three one last time.

Before the Internet you had no answers either most of the time. Maybe the guys are saving all the answers so that it will be electric that first night. If you don't know shit before they hit the stage it will be a more exciting event.

That was then, and this is now. I can wrap my head around that, but regardless they still won't answer every question the first night and will have to at some point. I just think it'd be easier to get it over with by doing an interview a week or two before the shows

For me it's like this is the ultimate fan pilgrimage.

I traveled (much shorter distances) for my first Gnr show in 2010 and for the Hall of Fame in 2012. Traveling with friends combined with the shows made them truly special. So, that combined with these being the first reunion shows to a city I've never been which isn't astronomical for me to travel to makes it a no brainer for me. I am sure there will be a tour, and I will be at the Detroit show, but this experience will be special.
