Iron Maiden vs. Metallica?

Maiden and Metallica are two giants from the 80's metal music scene.
Which band do you prefer and why?

And which bassist would you pick: Burton or Harris?

Iron Maiden has a better career. No album goes Ride the Lightning level, though. Cliff Burton is a better bassist. All other musicians on Iron Maiden are technically better. I mean.. Kirk and Lars lol

I would say that James is the best guitarist in both bands. Solos are not everything

James is a better all-around musician, hands down. But as a technical guitar player, I’d say maiden has the edge.

While I love and appreciate both, having seen them both live I find I have more enjoyment listening to Maiden

Iron Maiden, it is not even a competition. Pretty much every album they released in the 80's is a classic and they continued to write memorable songs. 

 

Harris over Burton but that took some thought.

As a whole, I prefer Iron Maiden as a band, as it has a more stable career, with more hits than misses, lots of more releases, and is a much more enjoyable band to follow. But if you take the top 5 songs from each band, it'd be pretty hard to judge.

I was listening to Senjutsu and The Book of Souls and even though Metallica's last albums have a few standouts which are pretty cool, there's no denying Maiden has managed to keep their albums on a much higher level, even though they release 'em a lot more frequently.

Got to be Metallica for me.  I’m ashamed to say I’ve only gotten into Maiden quite recently.   That’s sacrilegious coming from a Brit.
