Sosso
"In community building, the third place is the social surroundings separate from the two usual social environments of home ("first place") and the workplace ("second place"). Examples of third places would be environments such as churches, cafes, clubs, public libraries, or parks." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_place Do you have such a place where you can go and and spend your time? soon
Cool thread subject! Currently my third place is a nearby park. Its about a block worths of space marking a boarder between a busy street and a quaint, old, social dem neighbourhood. Its got paved walkways, benches, chess board tables, some lil veggie gardens, a gated childrens' park, a little library box and lots of big old trees casting shade over the entire park. On a given day there will be people of leisure enjoying some beer or what not, there will be some people BBQing, often a group of older Chinese women doing a group line dance to music or Tai Chi. Theres a record shop near the park and often you'll see families walking home with some new vinyl. Also a popular first time meet up spot for dating app users it seems. Theres often rallies, parties, events, and Food Not Bombs on weekends, so Im often fed tasty food while Im there too. I first started going there as part of rehabilitation from some injuries, to walk the laps under shelter and shade. Now I just love to go sit there. I sometimes try and get some work done, but not much ever gets done. There is a Tim Hortons coffee shop on my way there so I get a large double-double coffee. Sometimes I listen to a podcast. Sometimes audio bible. Sometimes just people watch. I have some chit chat with 'park friends' and do some cop watch as they bust those drinking or encounter an OD victim. Its such a blessing to have this oasis of trees in the city. Ive really come to appreciate not only the coolness of their shadows but that they are breathing. An elder friend of mine goes camping often and calls it "tree bathing." At first brush that concept was a little to woo woo hippy for me. But when I sit with those tress I cant really deny that 'bathing' is the best way to describe it.

Gibson87
It's the gym for me. I'm in there 6 days a week and I'm on a first name basis with most of the staff.
DieselDaisy
Between April-Sept, cricket venues (Riverside, Gosforth and Jesmond). October-May is absolute hell for me. Cricket grounds I should point out are not like normal sports venue. You are at them from about 11am to 6:30pm. You tend to become familiar with people and socialise. There is usually somewhere to get a drink. Even at away games you bump into the same faces. Edited September 17, 2018 by DieselDaisy

What's cool is that they give you free samples of everything, from perfumes to cookies. Sometimes i go just to walk around and check the display windows or I enter the big clothing stores and try on clothes but don't buy anything

I do the same thing, sort of. If I find myself dragged to the mall I will go to the food court and look at the menus from a distance and the vendors will call me over to try a sample. After a round of all the vendors Im full! I also like to go to the fancy kitchen wares store and just look at them and hold the gadgets. I get it. There's a bunch of good folks on here I'd like to meet and hangout with in real life but that's yet to happen so for now it's more of a dumping ground for my neurotic ramblings and stream of consciousness. Seriously I've been on here only a few years and I've got posts coming out my ears. I'm genuinely surprised I haven't worn out my welcome more than I may already have. It's especially weird because I usually vehemently resist social media as much as I can. Yeah, I meant to talk to you about that. We've had a meeting and basically you gotta go mate, I mean enough is enough. You won't remember this but that night you got pissed, shaved your under-carriage, drew in eyes and went 'Evening birds, wanna see an impression of an Advark?' before posting the pic was the final straw.
