The thing is almost any other 2017 performance of Jungle surpasses the 2001 RIR performance. But the actual RIR ‘17 performance itself was much weaker than RIR ‘01. I narrowly gave it to ‘17, though.

”Do you know NACHO THE FUCK YOU ARE”

Oh, Axl...

I thought initially you were comparing the concerts in toto, and that it was Rio 3 versus the Rio 4 abomination so accidentally voted Rio 3! I need new bifocals, although in my defence I thought Rio 4 was the last one, and was not aware that Not in this Lifetime had played a Rio. I am actually surprised at how the number of them as risen exponentially to the number of 'VII' - in cricketing lingo I'd say the strike-rate has risen dramatically.

2001 - Axl is weaker in general, but just barely, and he's more consistent. Also, Brain. And Buckethead. And that intro scream.

2017 - Axl has his moments but just because he tries for rasp doesn't mean his voice is good just because it's not really clean. There's a lot of 'Grandma Axl' voice there. But, Slash and Duff sound better than Robin/Tommy. But then, Frank.

Gonna have to say 2001...

Went with 2017, but it was close.  The mix was actually a big factor.  Also, Slash and Duff.

The Directv version sounds better than the Brazilian version,

I haven't got around to watching Rock in Rio yet but I agree that the 2017 version of Jungle wasn't as good as I was expecting.

'01, based on that opening scream alone. And Axl was still in decent shape

Didn't Axl get in shape after the January 2001 shows?

Wasn't he leaner at the New Years Eve show in 2001?

Yeah he was rocking abs at the Vegas 2001 shows, probably because he was embarrassed after most media outlets kept using this photo in their stories about Rio:

in fact, not only the brazilian Rock in Rio exists, but also other ones, like Rock in Rio Lisboa, which GNR also attended: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_in_Rio

so GNR appearances at RIR: 2 (1991), 3 (2001), 4 (2011) and 7 (2017)
and RIR Lisboa: 2 (2006).

the band was also scheduled to play at RIR Lisboa 1 (2004), but later cancelled it due to Buckethead's departure.

Save yourself some time, the Rio ‘17 proshot is severely embarrassing- mainly for Axl but the whole band as well. Was really an off night for them.

Vegas show was before the Rio show. Vegas was 01-01-01 and the Rio show was 12 days later

I think he talks about the new years eves shows at the joint Hard Rock Casino in the end of '01

I wasn't aware they played at the end of '01. I thought they only played House of Blues & Rio... Are there any (audio) clips from the Hard Rock Casino?
