We love Axl Rose
May 31, 1986 - Gazzarri's, West Hollywood, CA Notes: Under the name Fargin Bastydges. Axl: I hope you know where you are. I hope you know what you need. “Welcome to the jungle”, baby. Duff’s brother Matt and his two friends joined them on stage with their horns. Matt played the trombone for an extra-long version of the “Move to the City” with a jam at the end. Setlist: 1. Out Ta Get Me 2. Welcome to the Jungle 3. Think About You 4. Move to the City 5. Rocket Queen 6. Nightrain 7. My Michelle 8. Jumpin' Jack Flash (The Rolling Stones cover) 9. Don't Cry 10. You're Crazy 11. Paradise City 12. Mama Kin (Aerosmith cover) “Reckless road” by Marc Canter May 31, 1988 - Spokane, WA May 31, 2006 - Budapest, Hungary Notes: The band hit the stage after nearly a 3 hour delay, apparently due to Axl being late. About 800 hundred nervous people went home from the show before the band started, after they asked their money back from the checkouts. Axl apologized for the delay. There was no Axl rant as usual, just a very few sentences between songs. He didn't even introduce the band as usual, just Ron (as Mr. Bumblefoot) before his 1st solo, and maybe Tommy. Lots of solos, maybe due to Axl's backache. During 'Better,' Robin Finck smashed his guitar and goes off stage, when he got angry on something. Then Axl followed him to bring him back on stage. After the Jam Axl said they like to entertain themselves. Again, Ron jams on 'Don't Cry' during his guitar solo before 'Paradise City.' Rare performance of 'Back Off Bitch,' which Axl says was written in 1981. Axl mentions how when they toured through Toronto in the past with The Cult & Iron Maiden that AFD was banned so the audience didn't know most of the songs. Axl says that Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy took the place of hid father when he was little. Then he says how Slash had to pay the band $1000 the other night to open the show with 'Nightrain.' Before 'Estranged,' Axl lets the audience know that the last train leaving the venue is in 5 minutes! Photos are from 1st or 2nd show. LA Guns filled in for GN'R because Axl had blown out his throat. June 8, 1991 - Toronto, Canada (2nd Night) Notes:Axl says how tonight's crowd is much better than last night's (6.7). Axl mentions that 4 years ago he wanted the band to play 'Knockin' On Heaven's Door' because he wanted his generation to hear it. A rare performance of 'Welcome To The Jungle' as the last song. The tour was still early at this point and GN'R was still experimenting with their set. At some point during the show, a fan jumps on stage and charges toward Axl. themadcaplaughs
Forgot how rough Tommy looked during the end of his tenure with Guns N' Roses. Dude was drinking like a fish. According to certain "insiders" who had message boards at the time, his constant drunkenness and his attitude were drinking where constant issues when he was in the band; or at least from 2006 onwards. I worked at a ticketing company that ticketed the Shaky Knees festival in Atlanta the year The Replacements played. I got to hang out backstage for a few different bands, including The Replacements. Tommy was so wasted he could barely stand, and there was genuine concern he might not be able to play. To his credit, ten minutes before showtime, he shot up from a couch, had some water, and strapped on his bass. When I saw him earlier this year at the meet & greet before a solo show, he seemed in a much better place (although he managed to down a few shots ) Edited June 8, 2022 by themadcaplaughs

June 9, 1985 - San Francisco, CA Notes: This is the infamous 'road trip from hell' tour, going up the West Coast. These approximate dates are reported in Danny Sugerman's book Appetite For Destruction: The Days Of Guns N' Roses. June 9, 1988 - Irvine, Ca (2nd Night) set: Marseilles, It's So Easy Notes: GN'R, minus Axl and with Duff on vocals, play these 2 songs to make it up to the fans for cancelling out on the rest of the tour with Iron Maiden. 'Marseilles' was originally done by Angel City. Most people mistaken 'Marseilles' for the Kiss song 'Nothin To Lose.' During one of the Irvine shows, Slash, Steven & LA Guns join Maiden on stage to sing on the chorus of "Heaven Can Wait." *Photo from 1st Night June 9, 2006 - Dublin, Ireland Notes: The band were scheduled, and arrived, onstage at 9pm sharp. While Robin played the opening riff to 'Welcome To The Jungle' Axl surveyed the crowd and remarked that it was 'the rock show' before smiling and nodding. Axl looked in extremely good form throughout, and before 'Knockin' On Heaven's Door, he picked up an Irish flag and wore it around his neck while singing the song. He also called the crowd 'crazy Irish motherfuckers' and started saying he was melting in the sun and wasnt used to performing in the sunlight. Axl also messed up the words at the start of 'The Blues.' The majority of the crowd didnt seem to know any new material, and stayed quiet while the newer songs where being played. The crowd sang along to both Robin & Richard's 'Beautiful' solo and Ron's 'Don't Cry' solo. Sebastian Bach was brought on for a performance of 'My Michelle' and remarked that Dublin was a town that certainly knew how to drink. The band performed until 11pm, and had to cut their set short, saying that they hadn't time to perform a song (most likely I.R.S.) before performing 'Paradise City.' At the end of the evening Axl said they told him he wasnt allowed to do this, but that Ireland had been so great to him he would, and brought out the band for a bow. June 9, 2016 - Manchester, UK (AC/DC) June 9, 2018 -Donington, UK Notes: The band headlines the Saturday night at the Download Festival held at the Donington Park Circuit outside of Derby, UK. Axl announces that it is a "very sad day" because Poison broke up that day. Rare performance of Dead Horse during the summer '91 leg of the UYI tour. Axl leads the crowd in a "Get In The Ring" chant that is recorded and used on the song. He also says that they finished recording the song the night before in Toronto. June 10, 1993 - Oslo, Norway Notes: Axl dedicates 'Double Talkin' Jive' to Izzy, something he did a lot after Izzy left the European tour in '93. The band jams on 'Train Kept A Rollin'' during 'Double Talkin' Jive.' Axl introduces Matt as being is his 'fatherland,' referring to Matt's Norwegian ancestry. We love Axl Rose
June 11, 1991 - Hershey, PA Notes: 'Double Talkin' Jive' is played early so Axl can vent off his frustrations. One of the few shows when 'Knockin' On Heaven's Door' was not played. During the show, when Duff is shaking hands with the crowd, an audience member cuts Duff's hand with a razor blade.
