No. It’s unlikely to be a “disaster”, they’ve been playing to huge fields filled with people all over the world for six years, doubt this will be too different, most people have a great time at these shows. It scarcely matter how this show goes down, their legacy is long since sealed.

Tbh, 2023 Guns N’ Roses haven’t been hiding under a rock, most people have an idea about them, if they’re a massive surprise to some people then they haven’t really been paying attention. If some kids don’t like what they see or hear, I’m not going to get upset about it. I’m sure plenty will.
MrSoftie
I just hope the curse of the live streams is over... Axl seems to have a habit of pushing too hard early on and blowing out his voice for the rest of the show, see RIR. However, I'll support my favourite band and have a good night. alfierose
Moved this across early because the other thread was getting stuff posted in it. Can we keep to this thread please so anyone attending or following this show can find it in one place. Thanks
6lake sa66ath
Hopefully they pull out all stops due to weight of expectation, particularly for any of Axl’s short comings in this day and age, including calling on some heavyweight guest musicians including Elton, Paul McCartney or Brian May. I think this approach may hopefully endear their live pro-shot performance more to the viewing public… well here’s hoping at least.

I am somewhat. Glastonbury's headlining sets always get a massive audience watching on TV since they're featured so prominently on the BBC. Axl/GNR runs the risk of basically becoming a punchline to UK audiences, especially since Axl burned a lot of goodwill with his appearances at UK festivals in the nuGNR years. Popular Post colonizedmind
I'll repost my comment from the other thread here below, as notified by a mod that this is the main place for Glasto chat now... *Can't believe it's been 5 years since I last posted...I did return as a locker 🤪 lurker and have read many of your interesting (and funny! And now somewhat weird....*see Axl is gay for Ashba and Pitman chat*...guys we've got plenty to talk about for once, no excuses 😆 this place hasn't changed much then...expect the unexpected and all) I kept meaning to contribute since I started reading around Christmas again...everytime I thought of something maybe interesting to contribute, I didn't get round to it (out of the habit). Certainly wanted to be back involved before what could be the biggest night since Troubadour, this coming Saturday! We know Axl isn't quite the same but Its been a while since he's been this interactive, jokey on stage and that shows he's in to it...which is great to see. The man is happy and enjoying gigging. He's giving 100% on stage (not in prep but he never did, did he!?) And that's all I would personally ask of him...moving better than recent years, little lighter in physique, is that what everyone is agreeing on? (Repost) ----------+++----------+++---------- So all avid watchers of Glasto...the set times given ahead are just a rough guide (and often a minimum) ...if memory serves, for recent example, good old Paul.Mac was scheduled for 2hrs 10 last year and played pretty close to 3hrs in the end. GNR will very likely, with this soft deadline, which as they are last of the night is definitely expendable, just play their normal 2023 tour set (hopefully with a couple of surprises or guests..."Glastonury is gonna be legendary" - D.M) Since... every date so far has included at least one alt. song, there's a good chance of (if Axl can muster 110% and forget we're streaming 😉) be just that...a great night! 🤞 I've seen a few comments thinking we'd only get a few songs, a la other times GNR have headlined Donnington and Reading/Leeds etc. These days, it's pretty much written in the contract that if you're headlining Glasto, you've agreed to your whole set being broadcast, as the TV tie-in is a massive part of the experience and has been for a while now. I've also seen quite a few comments about the whole reunion JUST being about the mula, etc. Of course that's a big part...would you turn down that £? However I think it's fair to point out, if so....Glasto really doesn't pay the headliners anywhere near what almost every other festival pays (i.e in the millions) they are probably getting around £200,000-500,000 (based on past examples). So they're doing this one, either for the prestige (it's a right-of-passage to play at least once, right?) Or because they will drop a song (or two) around it...that's the sensible thing to do and what most artists do as there's a ton of free press and coverage, more than they'll have had other the first day they announced they were back together!...so watch GNR not do that BUT perhaps Duff WILL be right and it'll be legendary for some great reasons...such as that! I think we've got a chance of a great night and should be excited (until otherwise experienced...) I know a sound engineer that used to work at Glasto and they really are 1st class for production values...a rare praise of the BBC but there isn't a better sounding festival for proshot (ultra HD!)....so whatever Axl and the gang give us, it'll sound the best it possibly can! I think the smaller stage to their usual tour set up, may allow Axl to keep his breath better too... Just some thoughts from a coming out of retirement, old forum user! Good to see everyone pretty positive about this tour and a good vibe in here. It's been too long! I'd be surprised if we don't get at least one big name guest, its kinda like Coachella in that respect. Elton John does feel like a poissiblity though as he is playing the following day appearing on Guns set may lessen the anticipation for his own gig in a funny sort of way. Still that seems an obvious choice given the history. ACDC/Angus is another possiblity again for historical reasons... However Guns are big enough name that some left of field options may well happen. We've seen the likes of Ghrol and Pink afterall come up at seemingly random. Regardless, this is a hugely important set to the band, probably only Coachella and Rock in Rio are probably comparable, but unlike Rock in Rio Guns have never done the other two which gives them even more signficance to the band I'd bet. Yep...similar thinking on my end. They've got a couple of days between this and Glasgow right? I actually think it's more likely Axl appearing with Elton (although I'd love a N.R duet for the nostalgia feels...come on, we would loose our shit if that occurs!) as he's a huge fan and he'll be aware this is his final tour and UK date ever! (Until he gets bored at beinga father at least...) So if he can, he's probably staying to watch that....big article about how Elton is gonna have lots of guests in the press today....it doesn't predict Axl, which I think is a lack of foresight... If Lana Del Ray wasn't on at the same time on the other stage, that could of been your "left field"...imagine her and uncle Ax doing "Axl Rosé Husband" together....😆

Agreed. In my humble opinion Glasto is the pinnacle of this reunion, they need to nail this or at the very least score a par performance by bringing a load of guests on stage throughout their set.
rumandraisin
I don't understand the want or need for guests. It's a gimmick.

Sometimes yea....Occasionally it can be special...but in essence it appeases casuals and gives the BBC one of those "Glastonbury moments". I'm talking about pre 2016, they'd never done Coachella before and they never did Glastonbury in their prime either. Whereas they had done Rock in Rio in the past. Obviously after this weekend they've done what you could consider the biggest three festivals in the world, at least on a reputation basis.
colonizedmind
There's gonna be so much written about good old Guns between now and Monday...it's gonna be all over the place, opinion wise...like this one linked. An article of two halves, you could say. It starts overtly negative and strangely ends on a positive. The rehabilitation of Axl. The AC/DC gig did him a big favour in the eyes of the mainstream media who don't follow the ins and outs like folks on here... https://www.telegraph.co.uk/music/artists/guns-n-roses-axl-rose-glastonbury-controversy/ Side note. I always thought it was The Who that claimed they replaced Prince last minute In 2015, unless he was due to play 2014 too when "Metallica stepped in"...interesting. allwaystired
Elton has been rehearsing his full show for the last few days with his guests, so incredibly unlikely to be anything GNR related. If anyone, I would imagine Brian Jones and/or Angus Young....but I'd echo sentiments posted above that having guests is a bit cliche and tired these days, so sort of hope they don't.
