A better example would be Think About You and Don't Cry. Aside from the solos, there are no significant differences between the versions with Tracii Guns and Rob Gardner (that can be heard in the 1985 interview) and the released versions - they were the same songs as far as structure and arrangement. However, Slash and Duff (and Steven in the case of Think About You) got credits.

Same with Hollywood Rose songs that became GN'R songs (probably with the exception of Anything Goes and maybe Back Off Bitch).

I see what's happening with the credits now as a repetition of that.

I think it's the healthiest way to structure your band business to give out shares all the main stakeholders. Still doesn't make it accurate, especially when we go back to the press release "first original music written by Axl, Slash and duff in 20+ yrs" it's a bit disingenuous.

It will get really interesting when/if they start that new fresh album how the divide is..will all be very polite, a la Codkplay were every song is simply credited to the band, so equal share dispute some doing more than others or will it be by contribution? A lot more members, so I can see the latter still ...

Hopefully it's less of an issue (broke up many a band...) with $ being much less of a massive income like the heydays...

Yeah, it will be interesting to see if it will be AFD style (credited to the band and each one getting near equal share of the publishing), UYI style (credits to individual writers but blanket deal according to each one's contributions) or CD style (credits to individual writers and Axl getting a minimum of 50% of the publishing).

Currently is a hybrid of AFD and CD (credited to the band but the publishing is split as I described in the previous post).

My guess is that in the case of a new album of original material it will be a hybrid of AFD and UYI style.

Yeah, that press release was retracted eventually.

I've only listened to the new leaks a couple of times each but I really like them both! Love the heavy chorus on The General. Monsters was actually a bit more unexpected for me. I have to say, though, that I still probably like Evader's version of what he thought The General was best.

The "OH" well its over now. That "Oh" is pretty off, and since it is the same take copied and pasted throughout the song it is pretty noticeable to me. It isn't the end of the world, but I would hope it is corrected on the released version. Monsters is by far my favorite reunion single, either way.

Like with so many examples of Axl playing with effects, I don't think it is Off at all, I think it is purposely done.

I'm not sure how others are interpreting that line but to me it's clearly an inflection as he impersonates someone who should have been there for him and perhaps provide more comfort but ooooh it's over now so it doesn't matter, right?

I really want to know how the hell these tracks leaked! Whoever is responsible is a hero. It definitely feels like a malicious move against GNR/TB for snatching The General away from fans at the very last moment.

It'll be really interesting to see if the version of The General on the Perhaps 7" is different to this leak. I definitely cant see them putting out the full version with Monsters included on one side of a 7" single, even if it is technically possible.

I think Monsters is coming on the next CD EP, whenever that is.

I'm just saying the "oh" is a little out of key. It isn't ruining the track for me, I'd just hope that was fixed. I dig the chorus, quite a bit, overall! Super catchy! The General and Monsters both have pretty cool choruses imo

It feels retaliatory. Plus, the band even made a statement after the leaks about the vinyl being messed up. I doubt they would have acknowledged the delay if these leaks didn't happen. I feel like a vinyl delay isn't that big of a deal, we just made it one because new GNR tracks are so rare, and we were afraid The General would be canceled or some shit lol.

It is good for fans but It does suck for the band, I empathize why leaks are frustrating for them. I am curious if the final versions are different besides the mix/master and if Monsters gets a release sooner than later. This probably fucks with that song's release as none of us know if it is on the record or not. All that being said, I'd be 90% confident these are the Slash versions if not for the solo in The General. That sounds like Bucket to me, still. If it is Slash, he did a great job on that solo! Fits the song and goes all out.

As promised, update. Mr Marco Beltrami was kind enough to answer me (love him, became a fan in 2003 with his score for Terminator 3, was amazed Axl hired him when I learnt about it years later). Here is his answer:

"Hi Guillaume,

wow, you really are racking my brain here because it was so long ago, but this is what I remember:

I was hired to do orchestration/arranging for 8 songs. I believe only a few were released on the album that came out a while ago.

every song was distinct.  any connection between songs I was not aware of at the time, so yes they were all separate orchestrations.

yes, I remember a song called “seven” was my favorite but maybe its changed or evolved since then??  I could be wrong, but the two you list here sound a bit reworked from what I remember.

sorry i can’t be more helpful

marco"

I asked him another set of question to fully confirm if Soul Monster is Monsters, hope he will answer.

But I think we could almost already assume The General, and Monsters, were not connected originally.

Almost 100% sure Monsters=Soul Monster now.

Wow great job!

I love Monsters so much! I get a stupid smile on my face everytime I listen to it! It's all I could have hoped for from a modern GNR. Best new song since There Was A Time first leaked in 2006.

100%

Unbelievable he'd sit on it for 20 years.

I will say....does anyone think it's awfully strange that nobody in even the gutter metal/rock press which literally will take a y small thing and blow it up to being a story for clicks....no blabbermouth, no nothing on this...

So weird? What's stopped that

...it can't be because they think they aren't real? Right? Hasn't stopped them in the past rushing to post...

Maybe Guns have reached out to all those common networks with a warning about posting about illegal leaks...not that that can really/should do anything. Freedom of speech and all. Maybe they've promsied them an exclusive or something else, in order of their silence to not notify the non- hardcore of these developments....

I guess what I'm trying to say is, If the voice distortion used was more 'Oh My God', I think that I'd enjoy it a bit more. I find myself struggling with the layers that have been implemented. But I want to iterate this is a ME problem and I probably am just jaded and being whiny. The instrumentals are fantastic. As far as individual's issues with Slash, it's hard to take something that wasn't yours and make it your own. Slash has always been a feeling type of guitarist. It's clear that almost 90% of these songs are supposed to be more industrial/electronic rock. It makes me miss the Bucket lineup so badly. But who am I to look Aristotle in the face and tell him his opinions suck? Who would I be to tell Michelangelo painting naked children on a ceiling isn't very pc? I'm a nobody.

Is it true that two versions leaked? Or everyone is hearing the same thing?

It’s the same. There’s a slightly different fan-made EQ maybe.

I doubt, this in itself would become the story: “Axl tries to bribe the press”. It’s very unethical.

When the Village Sessions leaked, there weren’t any news reports about it, IIRC. In The General and Monsters case, maybe it’s a matter of people still doubting that they are real. Remember, the press is not a GNR specialist and they have to be careful with fake stuff created by AI.

You listened to it with headphones now. Don't you recognize Slash's signature playing? Not only the sound but his runs and bends. That's something I haven't heard anybody play like that besides Slash. And Bucket, even if he could replicate it, has his own style. He's recognizable as well. I'd say I hear his songwriting during the verses (I can’t tell which part exactly, because I don't know where to listen to them again, since they aren't on Youtube anymore). Listening to the outro of The General is like looking at a picture of Slash. I don't think it's him, I don't believe it's him... i know it's him

Maybe is asking too much but asking him if he heard vocals on that songs where he worked would be interesting, only if you can and want
