Just for fun:

Best song overall - Here Ever After

Best guitar solo - It’s Only Natural

Best John high vocals - She’s a Lover

Best John low vocals - Heavy Wing

Most unique song - Bastards of Light

Flea’s best - Aquatic (both bass and trumpet)

Chad’s best - These Are the Ways

Anthony’s best - Tangelo

I listened to the album 6-7 times over the last few days. It's really really good.

What I like the most, it sounds like they had a lot of fun and that they didn't try to write a hit (maaaybe Black Summer) rather just songs they like. Other things I like, some messing around with song structures and sudden changes. Guitar solos that sounds like John tried 3-4 things and just played the best one - I feel he's going to improvise so much live. A LOT of funk - the most since Californication I'd say. My favorite songs are Aquatic Mouth Dance, The Heavy Wing, Here Ever After and my absolute favorite One Way Traffic, I don't know why but it's such a fan little track

It's not their best album but every song is like between 7 and 9

One song I have heard a lot of praise for is The Heavy Wing, can anyone describe what that song is like? It's the second to last track on the album, seems odd to me that such a good song would be so buried in the album

Anthony just sings the first few lines and then John sings the rest on his own. Kinda sounds like his old solo song Carvel, or something off his album The Empyrean.

I'm not into that many RHCP online communities but I saw at least 10 people that got a CD or a vinyl several days earlier that they should

Which is great. Worst is when you pre-order something and you end up getting it days after the official release. It's nice when they time it so it is delivered by release day.

Surprise show at Fonda Theater coming soon, apparently.

Also Rick Rubin just updated his podcast schedule:

April 1 - John Frusciante

April 5 - John & Anthony

April 12 - Flea

April 19 - Chad

So much promo all at once all of a sudden. I can’t keep up!

EDIT: they’re playing at the Amoeba record store in LA on April 7.

I really should listen more to the record, but from my first impression I feel like there's not too much interesting guitar stuff going on. Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of the songs, but I love John's playing and he's been a huge inspiration to me as a guitarist, and on the other records with the Peppers there were many unique and cool licks and riffs that I couldn't wait to figure out, but this time around I didn't really have that.

That’s fair. For better or worse, this album is a lot more “jazzy”/“jammy.”

Yeah, and I'm really digging The Heavy Wing, White Braids & Pillow Chair, Whatchu Thinking and Bastards Of Light.

Having my first listen. Sounds really good.

Sounds like they had a lot of fun making it.

Such a relief - poster child and not the one are the two worst songs in my opinion.

Seems to  have been written with no thought of writing a hit - just writing some cool songs.

Interesting song structures and different sounds.

Looking forward to giving it a few more listens.

Bastards of light is my early favourite.
