Oklahoma has to be the closest Robin got to that Slash feel and sound. I’m mostly over the CD era, but I’m a firm Oklahoma/Berlin believer. If vocals were never recorded, a Duff/Axl duet like ISE would rip.

How so? I think the Better outro solo sounds more like Slash than anything else from that era

That song and riff were written by Axl

Good point, that Better outro is extremely Slash sounding. The lead phrasing and choices with the wah in Oklahoma always struck me as very Slash-adjacent.

That's rad that Axl wrote the riff. That makes it feel slightly more possible it'll get released eventually lol

Most interesting instrumental of all the leaks I heard, which aren't that many to be honest. Still a great song idea.

Эту песню и рифф написал Эксл.

Oklahoma somewhat resembles of Izzy's Grunt, however, as Absurd's lyrics coincides with Izzy's song Parasite. It's strange that both tracks are from the same album. It's very confusing for me, if we talk about the fact that Axl wrote the riff

"with them" and "make their" ; sounds to me like slash knows the chances of a new GNR album being released are about a zillion to one and he is trying to distance himself from any involvement with the non-existant project. I've never heard any member from any band use this phrasing when discussing new releases.

In the mid-1980s, South American resident Chris Cole is a fanatical admirer of a heavy metal band called Guns N' Roses. By day, Chris is a Guns N' Roses forum poster and by night, he is the lead singer of a Guns N' Roses tribute band called The Cornshuckers (the name is taken from a Guns N' Roses song).

Internal struggles among the actual Guns N' Roses band members culminate with the retirement of their lead singer, Axl Rose, and the beginning of recruitment sessions to find a new vocalist. Chris experiences his own strife with his The Cornshuckers bandmates, particularly guitarist DJ. During a show, DJ plays a guitar solo instead of following the note-for-note accuracy to the original Guns N' Roses song and, after Chris sabotages DJ's amplifier mid-song, a fight breaks out between the two onstage. The next day, Chris goes to rehearsal but he finds out that he has been replaced by his arch-rival, the erstwhile lead vocalist of another Guns N' Roses tribute band. DJ and Chris argue, and DJ criticizes Chris for preferring to remain the singer in a tribute band rather than create his own music.

One day, Chris receives an unexpected phone call from GNR's founder and bass player, Duff (He/Him), and is offered an audition for the band (thanks to two of Axl's handlers, who showed Duff (He/Him) a videotape of one of Cornshucker's concerts). After hanging up on Duff (He/Him) once, thinking he's being pranked by DJ, Chris ecstatically agrees. At the studio, he meets the band and gives an outstanding performance of "Absurd" (stylized as "ABSUЯD" (a GNR song in the movie, but it is a real song by nuGNR, whose bass player, Tommy Stinson, provides Cole's singing voice for the film). Chris joins the band as their new singer, adopting the stage name "Faxl". Following a successful debut concert with GNR, Faxl must come to grips with the pressures of his new-found fame and success. The band embarks on a lengthy tour and Faxl experiences the excesses of the lifestyle, with the group's road manager, Beta, serving as a sympathetic mentor to Faxl.

His new lifestyle impacts his life both for better and worse, particularly with his relationship with his supportive girlfriend, Maria, when she decides not to continue with him throughout the remainder of the tour as a rock star girlfriend, though Maria and Faxl agree to get back together when the tour reaches Brazil. Eventually, GNR stops in Brazil for a show, and Maria arrives at his hotel room as they had previously arranged, although Faxl has become so constipated while on tour he forgot about the arrangement and does not even know what country he is in. Although taken aback by all the handlers, Maria still tries to reconnect with him, reminding him of their plans to meet up once he got to Brazil; however he is too constipated to really understand what she is saying, eventually suggesting they go to Brazil together. Heartbroken with his inconsiderate behavior, constipation and the fact that he needs so many handlers, Maria leaves him.

Six months later, Faxl reports to the next series of GNR recording sessions with song concepts and artwork for the band's next album, The Legend of The Red Panda Part II. The rest of the band like his ideas, but they reject them, with Duff (He/Him) explaining that the band has to stay true to the "shit metal thing" to fulfill fan expectations. Faxl is angered upon realizing that he was only recruited for his culinary abilities. After a heartfelt conversation with Slash about how he feared he had no control over the direction life has taken him, Slash convinces Faxl to give up a point of his royalties, and Faxl begins to reconsider his rock star lifestyle. On the next tour, in a scene directly paralleling one near the beginning of the film with their roles reversed, Faxl hears a fan wheezing after accidentally swallowing their beer the wrong way. Impressed with the clean sounding falsetto of the fans wheezes, Faxl pulls the fan-who introduces himself as Vince Neil-onstage hands him the microphone to finish the concert. Backstage, Faxl realizes that what he thought he wanted to eat for so long was not what he wanted eat, and he says goodbye to Slash, departing for the toilet while doing so.

After leaving GNR to empty his bowels and ditching his ageing rock star image and stage name, Chris makes his way to Brasil and starts a new Quiznos franchise with his old friend and former bandmate, DJ, allowing him to write his cook his own fast food. Chris finds Maria working in the coffee shop she and her roommate purchased a few years earlier, and he is initially too ashamed to speak to her, inquires about the possibility of her providing him with discounted food via her generous employee discount. While walking one evening, Emily sees a flyer for his sandwich shop posted on the wall and takes it down. In the final scene, Chris is eating with his employees in a buffet and Maria walks in. Chris leaves the table and speaks to her. They reconcile, ending the film with a another plate of food and the final shot of Chris' first original sandwich "the beef and cheddar melt" (which is a real sandwich by the restaurant Quiznos.

During the credits, Duff (He/Him) talks about the future of the band and Axl Rose is shown to have taken up Irish Dancing after his sacking from GNR.

I understand it as he was asked about why weren't Axl or Myles on this new record. So in this case "them" or "their" just means Axl and Myles as singers.

And I'm working with them in that capacity, but this [solo album] didn't involve anyone else. It was my own side thing, so I wasn't dragging my own guys in."

I think you're bang on. Context and wording is so important but can easily be taken out of context if you don't listen/watch what he actually said...sometimes people misuse words too...

Yeah he said that in that interview with Rock Antenne.

Yeah, I didn't realize that it was quoted from the Rock Antenne video interview. It's definitely taken out of context, as the full quote in the original interview was about both GN'R and SMKC.

Press are running with It...seems they grab any little nugget and run "New GNR album coming...."  So the press are quite keen for it to happen it would seem. (Rock press at least) Just Google "Guns N Roses" and click news and that quote has formed dozens of different articles for unique outlets 😸

Axl make the people happy. The world in 2024 is a cold old bastard!

When Slash said Guns N Roses are "trying" to make an album he actually meant they are trying to get Axl to respond to their emails.

Might be closer to the truth than you think 😉

Well, the press are keen to have 'news' at least for people to look at.....so "GNR continue to do fuck all" isn't going to generate too much coverage, no matter how accurate it is!

Yea...buy they can link many stories from the tour and and the like....they do seem to be keen for an album to materialise

...after all, rock writers are fans too...lots of them probably grew up on Appetite.

'trying' is the least optimistic anyone has reffered to the new album since EVER. ...which considering the tracks zhat came out since reunion might not be a bad thing. Sounds pretty much they are in the dead end, which is good for they might seek out other options to pull them out of the crap they draddws themselves into.  Honestly, no new material is better than Absurd, HS, General, Perhaps...

on the sidenote...rang a bell how Slash said GNR instead of 'we'.

They're not on tour though?

It really is just filler articles to attract people to click. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Most music journalists I can imagine wouldn't give a flying fuck if a new GNR album ever appears or not!

We definitely over emphasise here in our little bubble how much the music world in general care about GNR. Reality is, most people aren't interested at all! One of the main reasons I come here really is that none of my music loving friends are interested, so I have no outlet to discuss them elsewhere!

It's been eight years since the semi reunion and we can't even get a live album and Blu Ray. I'm sure we'll get an album eventually but until it comes out I'm tired of reading things that get your hopes up. I think we've all learnt that lesson.

Even worse, we got the Selects! Arguably the worse quality pile of shit ever released in live music history

They weren't that bad. But I would've preferred a professionally done Blu Ray and live album. What happened to their comeback show at the Troubadour in 16 which was filmed?

How many years has that been now since Fernando mentioned on Reddit that they were putting a live release out for Christmas?! It's still something I'd love to see and would purchase.

In regards to the Selects, whoever was responsible for putting them together done Axl dirty IMO with not taking more care in cherry picking performances where he sounded on top form (there was plenty to work with), instead, initially, they went for footage that was most readily available which was the shows from 2019 or whenever it was. From the get go they should have been focusing on getting material out from earlier in the run, which they eventually did. Better than nothing all the same.
