"The General" is officially delayed... but "The General" AND "Monsters" is (unofficially) out of the bag

Some old dude with too much time on his hands spent countless hours determining every vocal syllable sound on the cellphone clip, then spliced together re-tuned Axl vocals primarily from the CD stems to make it seem like Axl was singing it. The instrumental was done much the same way, except the orchestra, which included old concert intro soundbytes overlayed with recreations from various other sound generators like FL Studio. Then, he replaced the Finck solo from the clip with some sweet Buckethead wankery (Track 3 of 2007's Cyborg Slunks).

It’s hilarious to me that I asked the question and everyone just waited for you to reply. After 20 plus years, I’m still such a  newbie.

The band introductions were so cheesy. I seem to remember GnR blaming Lars Ulrich for it not being released? Something like that

That’s right - they were waiting for his sign off, which I remember seemed ridiculous at the time, but makes sense when you see that him in the video is being escorted out blind drunk by Sebastian Bach haha

I just googled it. At first TB blamed Lars then retracted it saying they were just joking and that the video would be released “soon”

My guess is it'll be played live after it's dropped. I feel that the Perhaps thing showed us that's very much the m.o. as they could have played it yonks before it dropped if they wanted to. The streaming thing's an interesting question, the media outlets are saying October but that seems to be purely based on the vinyl release date so it could be any time really. My guess is they wouldn't want it too soon as Perhaps is still new. I do wonder if it will get some proper promo.

In terms of a shirt, I'd love one as given how many times The General's come up on here over the years, it'd be amazing! There were some Absurd ones put out so there's a chance.

Agree w/this. Good point on "wondering if it will get some proper promo" given the tour will wrap end Oct. Love the shirt enthuseum and hope it's similar to Perhaps shirt as in civil war 92'shirt with GnR and picture with skull 💀 general, that'll be awesome.

Hard Skool was released 6 weeks after Absurd. If they do the same this time, The General sould be released around 29th September.

Still 1 month (or more) of touring in the States and Mexico.

And of course, the Xmas window is right there for sell the music and items related

Perhaps ships 10/27.

You made me realize something just now, and I know this might be far out, but..is it really a coincidence that it releases so close to Halloween, and not even "release", it only starts the SHIPPING on the 27th. Until it arrives it might take a few days, and it might not even come out on streaming on that date, who knows when they'll put it up, I sure wouldn't say it's safe that it'll be instantly available on Youtube etc.

To get to the point, maybe it is intended for people to hear The General on Halloween? Put it up on the 31st on Spotify, release a Youtube lyric video, and all that.

..or am I venturing too far into conspiracy land here? lol

Yes you are venturing too far into conspiracy land. It will be out on streaming well before the physical release. People need to hear what they are purchasing. It’s not 1991 anymore

10/16 tour wraps. Perhaps ships 10/27.

We'll definitely get a live version imo given it was on set lists,my guess early Oct. Lord knows when it will stream. And CD orders will be for over Xmas time.

That's my humble opinions/prediciins.

Fair shout....CD/Vinyl with Perhaps/General/PTU/Anything Goes (later to live)....as that's what they did before with multiple HS EP's right? So Christmas is the gift market, so they'll hit that plus all us double dippers that've already bought P & TG Vinyl!

What was the exact release history/schedule of Absurd and HS again? Formats wise....

Wasn't it was taken off more recent setlists? I think there's actually a decent chance they don't play it live... from what we know, it's got lots of high raspy vocals. Axl would probably have to sing it similarly to the bridge part of Better, which was disastrous before the song was finally dropped.

If they released The General on its own, they'd be expected to play it live. But if it's a B-side that's released shortly after the tour ends, they'll still be able to release a good song (that hopefully matches the quality of TWAT, Prostitute, etc.) but Axl won't have to shred his voice trying to scream through it every night...

I hope I get to hear the song in Vancouver but I won't be surprised if they don't play it.

Well, Slash said they might compile the singles into an album at some point, so I guess we are.

New music, properly new music, I am afraid we are very, very far away.

Why do you say that about new music? Intuition or knowledge?

Well, I interpret what Slash has said as it being far away. And then it seems like Axl is focused on the CD material. Furthermore, creating new music from scratch takes a long time with Axl, honestly, I don't really see it happening at all.

Me Either. And Slash’s contributions to the CD material really feel like an acceptance of that fact. But, thats cool. Does Blackstar understand your theories on UAPs? If not, your doing her a disservice.

It's possible Axl has a bunch of lyrics written without any musical input yet, which Slash, Duff et al could contribute to for a properly new album.

This might shock you then: people preorder music they haven’t heard before all the time.
