Would be cool if we had the ultimate insider to provide us some deets but its a long shot.

Who would’ve even been around the band at that time (1994-1996)?

Marc Canter said at least three of the Snakepit songs were supposed to be GNR songs originally. And we have evidence that This I Love and Fall To Pieces come from that time period too. Then there’s the tape of a handful of songs that Duff and Izzy did in 1995 (Down By the Ocean is the only one from there that we know by name).

Gilby said all of the songs from his first solo record were originally songs he offered to GNR (they rejected all of them) except Cure Me Or Kill Me, cause he hadn’t written that one yet.

Also, there’s some speculation that Scent Of A Woman (assuming it’s even real) comes from the Zakk Wylde sessions. And Axl said once that Oh My God was apparently in its early stages when Duff and Matt were still around (but not Slash).

I wonder if other ChiDem songs that Paul or Dizzy wrote (The Blues, TWAT, Catcher, and IRS) were already around at that point too or not.

Just a little observation- I follow everybody in the band on twitter. There has been total radio silence from everybody except Slash n Duff, who are promoting their solo tours. Well and Slash’s animal and dinosaur and zombie porn stuff. Anyway, Melissa and Fortus used to be heavy posters up until maybe a month ago or so. Obviously under orders to maintain radio silence. So to me, that’s another sign that shit is really getting hot n heavy behind the scenes... exciting times!!!!

Hmmm im sure melissa would have other projects going on outside guns and if she did no doubt she would be posting about it on twitter. If nothing was going on gnr wise, fortus would be playing with other bands and doung his own thing. Considering all has been silent from her, its interesting.....

There was that interview from Sorum who stated there were 7 finished songs and then 7 songs with ideas that they were working on.  So who knows what he was referring to. This I Love was started back in 93.

Hopefully they finally got their "You're Fired" fax like Gilby did...

They keep adding festival dates. Maybe they'll just extend the tour so it never ends and they'll keep saying "new music coming. As soon as the tour ends".

In all seriousness, every time slash has been ready to release music since the 2000s he's been honest and on time. Doubt he would lie to us at this point about music. In his mind, all systems are a go. If Duff confirms it as well, seems like that's all the confirmation I'd need. 2/3 of the big 3 confirming new music? Must be the best odds since the 90s.

I saw a poster mention Melissa and Fortus going silent on Twitter. Instagram is silent too. I've noticed Frank has been as well. Steven went silent right before the reuninon right? He keeps promoting his solo band so seems to me he's still out. Matt too. He's been on tour with his new band. Looks like a current line up album with no originals. Maybe izzy on a song but that's just getting my hope up.

Perfect scenario in my mind: Reworked Chinese stuff with parts rerecorded by axl to patch up holes, all re-recorded instruments minus piano. 96 session stuff or ideas from, and maybe 1 or 2 new songs. However, if they're smart, they'd do all reworked Chinese stuff to produce it and get it out ASAP since its already vocally recorded. Slash and Duff would go to town on songs with vocals and have a finished product real quick. It'd take a year, at least, to get a good majority new material album out.

Bottom line is why would they produce new fresh music if there's a lot left in storage? They have no need to write new stuff until all the good unreleased stuff is out. Low effort, but high reward and they can release as much of it as they want using the timeline they want since the music is already made, or close to completely made.

I would prefer new recordings and new songs with current band compositions. Plus i want to hear new stuff where i can tell axls vocals are recent rather than using previous songs with old vocals because his voice sounds better.

I dont like the thought of using old CD songs because i think if there's already guitar work laid down then thats from robin or buckethead, and i think its disrespectful to release without any credit to them. Let axl release it under a demos/b sides at some stage

Im all for them releasing 96 vault era stuff.

I agree with the last 2 posts I want new vocals on any new album that comes out. I want to know that if I’m going to see them play new songs live then Axl is capable of singing them. Imagine going to see Axl sing a song with vocals recorded from almost the same time as TIL and it ends up sounding like TIL in late 2018 which forced Axl to leave the song out for last part of the tour cause he couldn’t sing it the same as before.

You want to tell me Axl rejected 'Beggars' and 'Tijuana Jail'? What a fucking moronic redhead.

New stuff with all new vocals, please. How lame it would be if they had to rely on former replacement's ideas and super old recorded vocals where Axl was in a completely different state of mind.

No true artist would do that.

Why? Who said they would use former members’ ideas? Slash and Duff are in the band now. Why wouldn’t you want Axls vocals from 15 years ago when he had a stronger voice? Why wouldn’t you want Axl lyrics from a time period when he actually had something to write about? I don’t understand why people are craving “all brand new vocals and lyrics” from Axl. Axl ain’t writing anything new dude, and that’s probably a good thing. I’ve got a sneaking suspicion Axl may be creatively bankrupt. Opening the vaults and having Slash and Duff rewrite the guitar and bass parts to Axls vocals and melodies will make the best album and that’s exactly what’s happening, I guarantee it. I WARRANTY it.

Because I'm interested to hear what they have to offer and what they have to say NOW as a reunited group. A relevant artistic statement, if you will.

Hearing something Axl wrote while he hated Slash and was dealing with stuff not relevant to him anymore would be kinda lame to me. An artist that lives in the past is not very exciting to listen to, imo.

Anything you haven’t heard is new though, no matter when it was recorded, so long as the music itself doesn’t sound dated.

I know right? The first half of Snakepit’s debut, Tijuana Jail, This I Love, and Fall to Pieces (whatever it would’ve been called back then) would’ve already made a great album. Idk what Axl was thinking when he initially rejected the Snakepit stuff. Beggars especially... Some of the lyrics in Beggars are fuckin stupid, though. One would hope that whatever Axl would’ve written for that music would’ve been stronger lyrically.

They could have had a kick ass balls to the wall album to follow TSI up with.. Take most of that first Snakepit album, sprinkle in a couple from Gilby's Pawnshop Guitars in and throw Axl on top and they would have had one more kick ass album in their catalog.  But Axl apparently rejected Slash's music and fired Gilby instead.  All to release the terrible music that ended up on CD.

I wouldn’t call ChiDem terrible. But it is a little weird how he took as long as he did with it and did it under the GNR name.

at this point I’ll take anything new with slash on it, though. Even if it’s just ChiDem leftovers.

I firmly beleive either 2 things. Axl had no idea what he wanted the next record to be sound like. Hes creativity is at a crossroads.  It was axls idea to have zakk wylde jam and possibly in the band to spark some creativity, wtf for?. Even then any "music" from that time period was mostly the band jamming on whatever came to mind, which was slash, duff and matt at that point because gilby was possibly on the way out. Or axl wanted to move right away from rock and focus on an industrial record, and im wondering if he was wanting complete creative control at that point hence dissolving  the old partnership.
