I't's huge news having Perhaps soundchecked.

Still, I have to say I feel a little bit disappointed that all new music so far are reworked CD era songs, and all of them are songs we already had with full vocals....

It obviously is better than nothing and I look forward to the day the song gets played live or released on streaming platforms, but it gives mixed feelings... specially considering I love the VIillage Sessions versions of Hardschool, Silkworms and Perhaps.

gotta keep in mind that each show they play the setlist will still be completely new and surprising for a majority of fans in attendance, so while it might not be fresh for us after a few shows, it still will be to whatever venue they are playing.

totally agree.. and as someone whos seen them multiple times im good with that set list except for easy as the opener and wichita has got to go.... that song is a drag and too far down the set to serve as a bathroom break

OG mygnrforum member here.

The show was fucking great. Axl sounded like Axl in the past 6-7 years. Sound mixing could be better (and it was back in 2017 and 2012). Overall, a really amazing rock n' roll show. Great respect for these guys, some of whom are around 60 years old.

I agree the live setting is great and mad respect to all of them but disagree that he sounds the same as he did since 2016.  It’s upsetting and you honestly never know what he’s doing (or not doing) to preserve his voice in between tours.

What I will say is that they need to get rid of Wichita Lineman, because it's a horrible cover, and Absurd, which is just a horrible horrible song. Two decades of this absolute garbage of a song haunting me jesus christ lol

It’s not even the LALD notes. It’s the basic stuff. Easy, Jungle, Nightrain….

Yea, there's been a pretty clear deterioration since then. Songs like WTTJ and OTGM had classic Axl vocals in 2016. It's been a steep decline since around 2018 though.

He still sounds weak on a lot of songs, but for the first time since probably 2017 he sounds good on about half the set. Hopefully they replace some of the weaker songs like TIL and SOD with Perhaps and the slow You're Crazy at some point...

I have to say. The best song of this concert was Chinese. Vocals amazing and the band as a whole sounded extremely tight.  Really wish they would do a one-off release of this current band’s rendition. Head and shoulders above the album cut. It’s harder and more chugging thanks to the change in drumming and Duff’s bass.

Perhaps sounds really good on these clips, I must say.

There's also that "mysterious song" that they soundchecked in South America last year. I still believe it was a song and not a random jam.

What was that?

Fwiw I do think there's some kind of plan to try writing all new material after this tour, like Slash said a while back. First we get Perhaps and whatever else this year then maybe something new later. I don't think he would've said that if it hadn't already been talked about before between them.

I would love a studio version of this.

I definitely praise the inclusion of low-register songs and ditching Better, i.e. Axl finally reacting to his current possibilities. Which is, by the same token, raising the question why on earth he insists on doing SoD and TIL, which sound horrible. He's not gonna drop stuff like RQ, but these two should go, at least for now, or at least they could alternate with something else.
It's like he's constantly trying to prove something to someone.

It's a little disappointing. He was better in Abu D. I don't know why but he should be improving as the tour goes on...

It's only the 2nd show. Give him chance

Axl delivered some pretty solid vocals on Nightrain. https://youtu.be/_vWBio2z1oE

Damn, he's got a good rasp going on here! He nailed the most difficult parts - "Never to retuuuuuuurn" and "Loaded like a freight train, flyyyyyyying like an aeroplane" (after the brigde). I've sung Nightrain in my singing classes and those parts are so f'n high I almost had a stroke (and I'm a woman) :D

I will be shocked if he gets through this entire tour without either cancelling or permanently damaging his voice.

He’s already permanently damaged his voice with AC/DC seven years ago, and it’s been showing ever since 2018, if not earlier. Which is why I don’t understand why they have to keep doing the same tour (7th year now), and playing 3+ hour shows. Yes, it’s nice for the fans, but they’re not getting any younger, and tempus fugit... I just hope he’ll continue adjusting the playlists accordingly, like he seems to have done now (with some unreasonable exceptions).

Once again... The AC/DC shows didn't damage Axls voice. He had a vocal coach working with him specifically so he didn't do that, as he mentioned in interviews. If Axl was damaging his voice, the coach would have said "you're doing serious damage here, try singing this way instead" as you can hear on the AC/DC run Axl didn't really change his approach. AC/DC was very demanding for Axl, and his voice did crack here and there going for those insane notes, so it's easy to point at that and say this is the smoking gun. If anything damaged his voice, it was the Guns tour having 2 3hr shows in a row, at his age he needs rest of at least a day between shows.

The damage to Axls voice is simply that he stopped working as hard sometime towards the end of 2016, went into auto pilot, lost a step and now age is kicking his ass for it. IF AC/DC had destroyed his voice, then the NITL tour would have been scrapped in 2016 as his voice had been destroyed... as you point out 7+ years it rolls on as he could still sing. He stopped practicing as regularly, went back to just doing warm ups/downs on show days and slowly but surely his voice got weaker (as you need to work on your voice almost every day of the week, in a use it or lose it way). Now, I can't say any of that for fact, but to me that's what it sounds like... but I'm not a vocal coach/expert. I do believe he can still build that part of his voice again if he followed a strict routine with a coach that specialises in vocal repair/recovery.

Agreed though, adjust the playlist, make the sets shorter and to the point. Doesn't need to be playing as long any more!
