Gibson87
They have to know that any release of new material would easily hit the top 3, maybe #1, on the active rock charts.

tryinharder
Looking forward to it. So far I like everyone involved in the GnR mix. Minus the drama.

TheGeneral
Live albums are a great listen when you drive at night, gives you the feeling you are actually involved in something other than just sitting there listening to a song. I'd like it, but nothing beats a new studio record. With AC/DC, Aerosmith, whatever, we have so many albums and we know what to expect, it seems like we've "heard it all" with those bands. GNR have 3 (4) albums, each has a completely different, evolved style. It just feels like there's so much left they could present to us. It doesn't feel right for them to never have a new album. Right now with GNR it feels as if Michael Jackson would have stopped after "Dangerous" or as if AC/DC would have stopped after "Back In Black". There's just so much more I want to hear from them, their story isn't finished yet.

A live album isn’t technically difficult to prepare and release (particularly if certain gigs were properly recorded) and with a mountain of material stockpiled already it’s not like they are starting from scratch (and Slash and Duff will bring fresh stuff for either totally new songs or to compliment older material). I know this is GNR we are talking about but that aside, it’s not a bad place to be with material. Edited December 3, 2018 by DTJ80
Popular Post Mysteron
On 02/12/2018 at 6:49 PM, All Cautions Made said: Let me set this straight. There are three rumors, from two very reputable sources and one that I have no idea where it comes from. One says that an album is coming in June. That one comes from a former GNR manager, who I was told not to repeat his name. Some people tend to discredit this rumor because according to some, he hasn't talked with anyone in the GNR camp for years and likes to make people think he's in the know. Another says that there are live releases coming and a cover in studio. That one comes from a friend of the band. No idea how it ended up here lol. I don't know anything that backs the third claim ("there's a live album coming with some bonus studio tracks"). Though, it fits the second rumor, being that “bonus studio track” the studio cover. We know for a fact that there are “new” songs that have Slash and Duff on them. So, it wouldn't be very hard to imagine Slash and Duff pasting his tracks on whatever was CD 2. On the other side, there was this Paradise City Live Version from Coachella that was broadcasted on a UK radio recently. We know Coachella was recorded professionally both video and audio. Every scenario is equally plausible and all of them come from reputable sources. Oh and @Propaganda, that thing with GH2 is outdated. If I recall correctly, Greatest Hits II was replaced by AFD re-release. There is nada. All fake 2 1 3 1

Popular Post alfierose
I don't want another live album before a studio album comprised of new material. By all means do one at some point but not as the next release. Spoiler Of course that is exactly what they'll probably do! I'd love to think we'll get something within six months but prior experience suggests this is gonna be a long running thread.

RONIN
Any new material released now, especially with Fortus/Frank in the band, will only hurt their legacy. This is a band that is frozen in time at its prime. Why ruin the illusion now? Someone above said that it's like if Michael Jackson stopped after Dangerous. IMHO, Dangerous was his last classic album. He would have had a flawless career had he stopped there. Best thing to do is just give the fans an Illusions and Chinese Democracy boxset. Empty the vault. There is nothing they can do now that will come anywhere near the mid-90's GnR material/Chi-Dem sessions. 3

Do people appreciate Thriller less because of what MJ shouldn't have released after that? No. Same way, they'll still appreciate AFD or UYI. I'm sure many fans would really love whatever they have in store, without expecting AFD or UYI, just like there are many fans who love CD. I will never understand the thinking you should rest on your laurels after having a huge success, because you might tarnish the legacy. Such bullshit to me. 8
shotsfired cro
I do think they can top their prime, studio wise, but only with UYI line up.

I hear what you're saying, and I agree... they will never top AFD or the Illusions, at least I don't think so, but I'd still want to hear new music, even if it's only half as good. The Smashing Pumpkins released a new record a couple of weeks ago with the almost original lineup for the first time in 18 years. It's not as good as most of the stuff they released in the 90's, but it's still good, in my opinion, and I'm glad they released it because I'm enjoying it.
