The "New Album" Thread - Susan McKagan says album is coming,"Universal database implies new album is coming because the numbers between Hard Skool and Absurd are missing"?

Rick Rubin was identified pretty recently as the producer of what we think was Hard Skool. Axl apparently fired him when he asked him to work on vocals. It's a shame because I think he would've been the right producer for the band at the time.

Rick Rubin became one of the most overrated producers of all time.

Read Interviews from various AC/DC members.

And Matt Sorum's upcoming autobiography.

It depends what you want from a producer. He went some way to explaining what went wrong on a recent episode of Talk is Jericho. The Ballbreaker album is disappointing but I really like Big Gun which was also produced by Rubin.

I really don't think Axl could deal with Rick Rubin and vice versa XD

There may be something to this. They certainly couldn't in the nineties.

Two things Rubin would certainly try to change would be 1) The ridiculous amount of layering of nonsense like sub bass and actual bass and real orchestras and synth orchestras, and 2) If Frank is the limited player many here think he is then Rubin would request a different/session drummer.

Axl: "No sub bass, no record! ABSURD! FiRED!!"

Hahaha! Sub-bass has its place. But generally most folk just use the plug ins and apply it to the individual track or the master as a whole. GNR seemingly have somebody individually making new sub-bass parts which is utterly pointless!

Wishful thinking:

Imagine SMKC open for GNR in some of their upcoming legs with SMKC promoting their new record. The all Slash shows! 5 hours full of Slash.

I think Slash would totally be down for that! Not sure Axl would welcome the comparison of his vocals next to Myles though.

That would be awesome but I don't think it'll happen, mainly because I doubt Slash wants to play 2 sets of music every show.

Honestly Slash probably spends most of his time in the dressing room playing guitar.  I doubt he would mind lol

That reminds me of a few years ago when people were lobbying for a Soundgarden/Pearl Jam double billing, that would have killed Matt Cameron

Pitman did a lot more on Chinese Democracy than just programming the Sub-Bass.

Well, at least he invited a new Instrument. Where is your work for the music industry?

There's a big difference between playing in the dressing room and performing on stage. People would be complaining that he's tired by midway through GnR's set.

Pj could've brought Dave A back and everyone would be happy. They'd have their best drummer back and Matt could become the monster drummer he once was in the mighty Soundgarden.

Here's an idea: somebody insert a poll in the first page of this thread - for us to bet how many pages it will reach before *the release*, and make it per 100 steps or so. The winner gets... Idk, a congratulation or something.

Yup - he has a stellar resume up until a point and then…..mediocre. When it was announced he was working on Death Magnetic I was extremely pleased and it turned out a complete missed opportunity. Dreadful production…..poor other choices too (like having the guitars tuned to E ‘like in the 80s’ meaning vocals on record are more strained as Hetfield doesn’t sing like back then). And of course the slightly downtuned guitars sound much better live. 🤦‍♂️

I know, right!? First Van Gogh release in nearly 200 years and he’s palming us off with a copy and pasted oil painting from the 17th century…!

Although being dead and all, he’s less bloated.

Is he still cracking jokes though? We all know how important that is!
