Maiden and the Stones write fresh, quality music that appeals to their bases. GnR release dates 20-year old rejects. You don’t see the difference?

It’s a great record

The 1st 6 tracks rock !!! Back end is absolutely shit, especially that guff with gaga

I don’t think those songs are in the same level as Estranged. But that’s just my opinion. And I do love TWAT and SOD/The Blues.

And I agree that they are incompetent with mastering and releasing it, but I don’t see it as a leftover.

Good point, maybe I was a bit harsh with leftovers, as Monsters is definitely single material imo.

Even the more traditional sounding tunes like Hard Skool are missing that organic spark of life in it that makes even a mid-song like Shotgun Blues still a fun listen.

I listened to Shotgun Blues the other day as I saw someone bagging it and thought I thought it was one of highlights of UYI2..... and, that interplay, that solo, it just flows.... Chemistry in the studio was flowing naturally..... Something the hybrid songs don't have imo. But still like perhaps, Monsters and TG to a lesser extent.

Production issues aside, I'd put The General in the same tier as Perhaps, though Perhaps is a bit better. They're simple songs that suffer from repetitiveness, but there's some good ideas and nice guitar parts in each of them. Neither are bad songs, but they're also far from great. At least they're a step up from Hardschool and Absurd...

Monsters, on the other hand, is in the same tier as songs like Better. Not quite the 'best of the CD era' like TWAT and Prostitute, but pretty damn good. Really seems like they're saving the best for last, assuming they only re-recorded half a dozen songs.

i dont want a group of 60 year old men writing new songs about "I've been thinkin' bout thinkin' bout sex. always hungry for somethin' that i havent had yet." no thank you. At least the general has a meaning behind the song.

Patiently waiting for Out ta Get Me Part 2 following Axl's assault allegations.

Agree.  at this stage none of them are lyrically or melodically not even near to estranged. Not sure though if its just incompetence or sort of” now we are gonna do something really experimental “

I like The General, but I have to be perfectly honest I listened to "Breakdown" right after it and man I hate to sound like one of those "it isn't the same" people but the interplay of musicians is just on another level.  That is what I miss about GNR - musicians sounding like they are in the studio having fun recording tracks together like any other rock band

You hear Slash's solo on Breakdown and it is reactive, its feeding off the energy from Duff, Matt, and the rhythm guitars + paino.  You have Axl's spoken word reactive to all of that, and everything sounds full of life

Even the more traditional sounding tunes like Hard Skool are missing that organic spark of life in it that makes even a mid-song like Shotgun Blues still a fun listen.

And so when you see non-hardcore fans ripping on The General, even as someone who likes the song overall, I get it

Yep. It sounds almost like an assembled song with unwanted parts of different leftovers

"Seven" is our only hope... :rofl-lol:

But I agree, it's funny though. What confuses me the most is during the October leaks everyone was pretty positive about "The General" and now that's it's officially released. Suddenly most decided that it wasn't worth the wait or just changed opinions about it already.

for me state of grace can save it for me. i wanna hear it with slash and duff

How about, "I've been thinkin' bout thinkin' bout sex but I haven't checked the mailbox for the viagra yet?"

I agree, that any new lyrics should be written from an adult perspective and not a teenager perspective.  Otherwise, it isn't authentic at all.

My only request is for them not to do a "being famous is a pain, poor me" song that many like to do at some point in their career.

I can't complain, but sometimes I still do...
