Guns N' Roses and Motley Crüe-who do y'all think is better overall

Who's had more impact on the rock n' roll/hard rock scene? Imo it's Guns N' Roses (even tho the original line-up separated). Better musicians, better singer, better 5-album discography, bigger tours, better songwriting, etc. Now Guns didn't last forever just like November Rain but let's see, even then, their reunion tour (which doesn't include Izzy, Steven) they're still selling out stadiums, arenas and NITL tour became the 4th highest grosser of all time. Motley can't sell like Guns, but imo they were consistent. What y'all think?

Btw are they still beefing? I know Slash went on Nikki's radio show, etc. But Axl and Vince haven't patched up I guess.

Totally subjective & this is a guns forum so.....

Motley had some good hits but they still lacked something that kept them from being a Tier 1 type band.  Motley Crue is like a high Tier 2 imo.

they lacked the diversity in material that guns had

Asking a bunch of GNR fans this will have a predictable outcome.

However, the name Guns N Roses brings up names like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, ACDC, Queen.

Motley Crue never quite came into that category when people are mentioning these larger than life classic rock bands.

The material is all subjective.

People with common sense will go with Guns N' Roses because even if this is a guns forum, no one can tell me Vince is a better singer than Axl😂

Guns brought something absolutely new something that hasn't been accomplish since them. It's like they were the last of the great classic rock bands.

Motley were inferior/mediocre with their material.

Motley is not even in the same league as GnR. It would be like comparing Bush/Creed to Nirvana imho.

Agree. Guns opened for Motley and ended up becoming much bigger than them. Motley, Skid Row, Ratt, Quiet Riot, all are the same. The reason I brought this up was because I saw this documentary on VH1 about sunset strip and everyone was equating Guns with the other cheesy Glam metal bands. I was like "Fuck that"

But on a side note, Motley were consistent. Released albums, went on farewell tour, etc. But except for like Mick, I don't think others are as talented as they'd like to think. 😁

MC had about a 12-month period during the Dr. Feelgood-era where they were arguably the biggest band in the world. Guns had about a 30 month period (tail-end of Appetite and then most of UYI-era) where they were the biggest band in the world, and were talked about in the same breath as the Stones, Led Zepp, etc. Frankly- one could argue that MC’s Dr. Feelgood run was really just a “bridge” between legendary Guns records...

That said- 99% of the bands out there would kill even to have had MCs success. So no shame...

As far as whether they’re still “beefing”- Slash/Duff seem cool w/everyone. I think there was still some friction between Axl and Nikki/Vince around Dj a few years back though if I’m not mistaken (i.e. Nikki re: prioritizing Sixx: AM, Vince criticizing Axl for not showing up to rehearsals, etc.).

As many have already mentioned, this is a Guns forum so you're gonna get the obvious answer. That said, I'm willing to bet that an unbiased party would choose GNR. Here's why

1. Motley was pretty much a hair band. Their sound didn't age very well, imo. I'm not saying it's a bad sound, it's just that you can clearly tell it's from the 80s. GNR's sound actually did age well. You could tell someone that's never heard UYI before and tell them it's from the late 90s/early 00s and they just might believe you.

2. GN'R was/is a genuine band. It dawned on me recently that very few of their songs were about partying and drinking. 99% of the material is about the bullshit that life gives you. Even most of their ballads show the ugly side of love that nobody likes to write/sing about.

3. At their absolute peak, GN'R was ridiculously popular. My dad was 22 when UYI came out and he said he remembers GN'R being everywhere. The only bands that were more massive at the height of their careers was Zeppelin, The Beatles, and maybe the Stones.

4. A lot of people put Guns on the top shelf with LZ, Pink Floyd, the Stones, The Who, etc.

I like Motley Crue, but they arent in the same league its like comparing Aston Martin DB9 to Audi R8

They are good bands, but for me MC only has two and a half good decents records... Dr. Feelgood, Motley Crue (with J.Corabi), and some songs from their first records

Moreover Nikki Sixx is overrated aswell Vince Neil, the only two good musicians in that band are Mick Mars and Tommy Lee, in my opinion...they became popular because of their wives, porn videos, etc...

Didnt read the discussion but lol Is this a serious question? I like Crüe but their whole discography is consisted of the same song. lol They are important for the formation years of a sub genre but musically they're... meh. And this comes from a person that likes Crüe, I even played in a band that used to do some covers of  their songs.

I love Motley but feel they were like Kiss in that they leaned on gimmicks and a flashy live show more than good song writing.  Despite having not-so-good lyrics, I think they are all great players.  I love Mick Mars and have always liked Tommy's drumming.  They'll probably eventually get into the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame after the elitist Rolling Stone class is no longer involved.

Like everyone else here, I'm a Guns N' Roses guy so to me, they're better.

I liked Mötley when I was younger. Later on I realised they suck. :D

Plus, I find them highly unlikable as people with the exception of Mick Mars. He' s a good player as well.

Compared  with Guns?  That's like comparing Ratt, Great White or any of these bands with Gnr, not even the same sport.

Fuckin' Guns n Roses all day long.  I ain't even GnRs biggest fan but fuck me, Motley Crue are a bunch of fannies, fuck that shit, fuckin' glam rock 15 years out of date with none of the charm and even less of the style, in terms of the look they just turned it into fuckin' muscle-bound greasers with make up on, it was just hideous and the lyrics were just fuckin' terrible.  Awful fuckin' band.  Guns n Roses wee all over Motley Crue from a great fuckin' height, not even in the same fuckin' conversation, Motley Crue are poor to the point of unlistenable.

I imagine if you posted this post on a Mötley Crüe forum you'd see the same replies that have surfaced here only with the two bands reversed!

Yeah but I'm right and Motley Crue fans are wankers :D
