TheGeneral
WTTJ, GTA San Andreas around 2013. Since I am interested in live stuff, I looked up WTTJ and the first video I ever watched of GNR was the one where Slash fucks up the intro. Gave it another shot some time around 2014/15, watched the Appetite for Democracy live video. Axl's voice just made me love Guns and the music, and well, now I'm here to stay. Powderfinger
Sweet Child of Mine followed quickly by Paradise City. Both hit the charts.
Mysteron
It was a demo of Don't Cry, I think I heard that before AFD.
PirateRadio
This is a really fun topic. I’ve always felt that because I heard WTTJ first, and it’s their first song to go big, first song on the first album, etc., my GNR world is in perfect working order. No hysteria and unpredictability in that universe I’ve made up.
Dcrazed212
My older sister told me she was going to Giants stadium to see Aerosmith and Guns N Roses. I was 10, I never heard of them. Then late at night in 1987, me and my cousins were watching MTV, probably hoping for a Motley Crue video to come on, and sweet child of mine came on. When we saw the lead singer swaying side to side, for some reason we all started laughing hysterical. Then a few months later, my sister started screaming that the video for paradise city was on, some of it was filmed at the concert she was at in Giants Stadium. Not sure what it was, but that video really made a mark on me at the time. Even at 10, I kinda new, this is big, this will not be one of these current rock bands that are out that will disappear in a year or 2. Just seeing Axl and slash, and Izzy , it was so electric. They had a swagger like they been around as a band for 10 years.
valengf
I do not recall the first time I heard a GNR song.. probably was one of the hits as they are well known (SCOM, Jungle..) but honestly, the song that got me hooked to the band, that when I heard it randomly starting playing on an old cellphone I wondered what? who is this? this is GNR? and I listened to it like a dozen of times (without knowing anything about Chi Dem). And i fell for all GNR albums and material etc, the rest is history. But Prostitute caught my attention as it was a style I had never heard before. Was about 8 years ago. 2020_Intensions
Don't remember what my "first" song I heard was, probably SCOM or WTTJ but it was hearing November Rain on the radio that made me go "Wow!" & Youtube the band .... I've been addicted ever since ...
Screamin' Demon
I was watching Terminator 2 as a child when it came out and remember hearing Axl's voice and the rocking attitude of You Could Be Mine for the first time as I saw the scene when John is revving up his bike and taking off. "She's not mother Todd!" 😂 Then I was further intrigued as it was played when the boys ride in the canal, rocking out to it. Then at The ending credits of the film, when the film's title track ended and You Could Be Mine kicked in, that drumming and gusting totally took me away! Then Axl's voice adding rock n' tool venom into all this; I couldn't believe myself what I'd heard. Years down the track, as I'd take a deeper interest in Terminator 2, the track pulled completely took me away, as I would play the film's ending day after day on an endless basis, until I'd finally purchase most Gn'R CDs, yet still remain obsessively playing You Could Be Mine over and over again and it remains by far my favourite Gn'R song; I'll spend part of my spare time finding quality live versions to listen to repetitively. Nice Boy
On 21 November 2019 at 1:42 PM, action said: not to mention the little sexual interlude near the end. Who else skipped that song when it would reach that part, fearing that mom would otherwise think I was watching porn again? My friend put the cassette of AFD on the car stereo whilst his Dad was driving. Eventually he went went into a panic as he realised too late that Rocket Queen was about to play in front of his Dad with the 'naughty' bit in the middle, so had to just sit through it in embarrassed British silence..
Gold top 78
PC was the first song I heard was around 87/ 88 when I was 9 or 10 years old. I remember my older brother coming into our room with and putting AFD on the record player. The only other song I remember hearing back then was Think About You. The first full album I heard was a cassette with UYI 1 on it that my friend copied me and that was around 93. That’s just after I started getting into GNR Edited November 29, 2019 by Gold top
mojoaudio
Great thread idea- Paradise City...... had no clue who the group was nor song.... was fairly young at the time but knew the song was amazing and just had to figure out who it was. After all this time it is up there on one of my preferred songs but I think Civil War remains my favorite..... (which I also remember hearing for the first time and didn't think all that much of it/ again, was very young at the time).

Rjuncajun
SCOM...1987-8. One of my best friends was stationed in SD. He would go to LA often. He was a huge fan from seeing them on the strip. He was the one that introduced them to me shortly after AFD came out. Now that I think about it WTJ may have been first. Too long ago to remember that precisely.
