  1. As far as Robin goes I have to say I completely disagree. His solo on This I Love is a masterpiece. But the rest of his work unmemerable? Street of Dreams, ChiDem, There Was a Time, Better ... Man those solos are so amazing and melodic. His impression is all over that album, just as much as Bucket's.

  2. Fuck sake. I check mygnr and see a leaks thread. I expect a new leak like Seven or Zodiac 13, instead I see a bump about a Ashba solo demo from 10 years ago.

  4. It’s an absolute shame that we never got to witness a 2002 performance of There Was A Time. Seeing Finck and more importantly Buckethead hit their solos. And I believe that in 2002 Axl was best equipped to nail those screams. We’ve all seen his Live and Let Die scream from 2002, he had the power, stamina and rasp to absolutely nail it. It would’ve been a definitive performance from that era. Not sure why but this thought has kept coming to my head lately and I figured some of you guys would relate.

  6. I was with you until you said reforming VR. This blues record seems like it's been a shot in the arm for him, I hope he keeps doing more new stuff - SMKC is stale but it would be way cooler for him form a new supergroup than resurrect VR. Slash, Duff, and 2-3 unexpected musicians. I'd love to hear him jam with people like Anderson .Paak or Ayron Jones, for example... Some one-off Snakepit shows would be cool - It's Been 30 Years Somewhere - but again at this point I'd rather hear him sprinkle those songs into shows with new projects.

  7. Indeed it is, and they probably won't be bothered to remix or remaster them, so Perhaps will sound quiet and Hard Skool and Monsters will be loud AF.

  8. He has said it at least a couple of times since he got back to GN'R (and even before that, although not so explicitly). E.g.: Slash: When Velvet Revolver… like when we sort of ended our relationship with Scott Weiland, and then we sort of half-heartedly went and auditioned a bunch of singers, you know, I just - definitely my heart wasn't into really continuing this thing. But we did it for… let's see, that was 2007, 2008. So we went down that road for a few months and worked on some new material, and worked with some good people and whatnot. But I just didn't feel like it was something that I wanted to continue pursuing. https://www.a-4-d.com/t8209-2018-09-21-metal-talks-on-spotify-interview-with-slash

  9. To each his own. You are a guitar player, so you would know way more than I in terms of what type of talent level Robin had or has. I just don’t think his solos are memorable. I do love the riff to Better, probably my favorite of his recordings in Guns overall imo and what should have been the lead single and video in 2006 To be fair, watching videos like NR a million times when it came out as well as my VHS of the Ritz from MTV probably explains why I prefer Slash in Guns over any anyone else. That tone, the feeling of solos, they are so perfect and memorable to me. I got into them when I was 14 and they were just breaking out. Very impressionable age and he has remained my second favorite guitarist after EVH.

  11. going to assume english isn't your first language. he slated him sarcastically saying thats what happens when you dont rehearse for a year. I don't know if english is your first language or you may suffer from autism or something that means you take things literally rather than as attended, but i assure you, it was not to comfort him. it was him letting off steam and letting axl know how pissed off he was

  13. True. That 2002 line up was the most interesting line up of NuGuns. It's a shame that it never was let loose.

  14. Because the label doesn't pay to push the new songs, and without it, regular people only care about the classics. I'm not saying this isn't the band's fault, because it totally is - their relationship with the label and/or how they distribute the songs is part of their burden. If they don't care, why would the label? I know a lot of people here dislikes Rick Beato, but he has a pretty cool video about how the local US radios were bought by big players such as Live Nation (or was it Clear Channel? Can't remember), and that made the artist selection in rotation a lot worse, especially considering that local artists just don't get any air time at all. Indeed. And it's all very tastefully crafted, both in melody and tone. Can't disagree more. It's quite the opposite to me. Robin's solos are most of the time unpredictable (I remember his Better solo with that descending bend caught everyone by surprise back in 2006), while Bucket commonly relies in his own cliches - which are good, but can't say those are not predictable like his SOD outro, If The World main solo, Madagascar etc.

  16. But I think most would agree that SMKCs album quality has dipped considerably. So you might still love seeing the gig, but you're not rushing to put on the last 2/3 albums. Maybe not, but that's where I sat before the last gig. Now I don't really have an interest in seeing it live because the set has too many bang average songs that don't excite me. But I'm just really going off my experience and my friends who follow him and saw the gig so it's not exactly an exhausted study😄

  19. is your memory fuzzy? they didn't openly slate him on stage, it was quite the opposite. Axl said that he didn't want to be there and was obviously upset about his weak vocals and mistakes and Tommy told him that he didn't sing for a year before that show to comfort him.

  22. "Better than nothing" describes Guns perfectly for the past few decades. But, to answer your question, the wildly inconsistent mixing and mastering of the 4 NITL/Chinese tracks are not suitable as is for an album. Albums are supposed to be mastered as one, so there's not jarring audio level changes between tracks. Guns has shown they don't care about this, as the Perhaps single with The General are vastly different from a mixing and mastering standpoint.

  24. Well it's better than all the other GnR questions that he's asked in every other interview. Right, it kind of fizzled out and they stopped talking about it, but now he's said that it's actually over and has been for a while. Which is probably for the better, because I don't think doing VR 20 years after Contraband came out would be as fun or exciting.

  26. Some of the posts were very reminiscent of Axl's sense of humour. Although I guess it's fairly easy to emulate Axl's typing style on twitter, I don't think it's that easy to mimic his sense of humour. And then there were some links and reposts that fell into Axl's interests, e.g. a performance by a pianist from 1962. The account is also being followed by Dizzy's ex-wife Lisa, who has been close to Axl.

  27. Well Slash has never really said definitively that he was done with it. There were people here wondering about the status so a worthwhile question. And let's face it, he was cuffed not being able to ask gnr questions which he clearly avoided and didn't elaborate on whenever he easily could have... So what else was he going to say😄
    1 point
  28. Slash is still mentioning wanting to go in and finish a GNR record, and mentioned that plan without being specifically asked about GNRs future so hey I am glad at least Slash still believes that could be a thing that can happen still

  29. But the level of knowledge is the same for any speculation or educated guesses of the kind of "Axl behaves this way or doesn't release music because X or Y". The only thing we have full knowledge of is the result: Axl is not prolific and rarely releases music. The only reason that attributing everything to mere laziness is seen as "telling it like it is" while other or additional explanations are perceived as "defending Axl" is because people generally sympathize less with a lazy person than with, say, an insecure person, so the laziness explanation provides more convenient and less challenging grounds for venting, whereas more complex explanations are usually less emotionally charged (and are not worded in the form of a rant), so they're taken as trying to "invalidate" the fans' frustrations. But, in fact, insecurity or a potential mental condition as parts of the reason for Axl's behaviour doesn't mean that Axl bears no responsibility for it. For example, the people around Axl have changed over the years, but some patterns have been the same e.g. from Doug Goldstein to TB, which suggests that he tends to trust the wrong people to take care of business for him, and that he's prone to being surrounded by sycophants, and that's on him.

  30. Another interview (in French, Rock Hard magazine,): https://www.a-4-d.com/t8416-2024-05-01-rock-hard-france-damned-blues-slash I'll translate in full at a later time (help welcomed!), but here is the part about Metal Chesnut: The record ends with an instrumental called "Metal Chestnut", a sort of “odd one out" that's closer to the Guns N' Roses repertoire than to a song written for a blues record. What's the story behind this song? It was Mike Clink's idea to end the record with an original composition. Having spent a lot of time putting together the covers and their arrangements, I hadn't thought about it. I liked his idea. So I stayed home for a couple of days to work on some ideas. "Metal Chestnut" was written on the last day of rehearsals for the album, just before recording. It's an instrumental that I think is rather inspired and came about spontaneously. If people think it sounds like Guns N' Roses, maybe it's because I'm in that band! (laughs) The rest is mostly the same stories about the recording of the covers and a bit about the performance at the Oscars. He says again that he'll start working on a new SMKC album (has already written a couple of songs) after the blues tour ends, and that GN'R has no tour planned. Doesn't know when a new GN'R album will come out, but it will be after the next SMKC cycle and all new material.

  32. He has recorded some great solos for Guns but I don’t get the love for this mediocre Perhaps solo. Neither his nor Slash’s solo is something I would consider their a-game.

  33. 100% I would add Perhaps to that list as well. Melodic, amazing solo. I remember listening to it over and over when it first leaked.

  35. I mostly agree with you here. The original NuGuns versions absolutely sound more cohesive. Personally, I just don’t like Robin’s rather weak and uninspired solos. Just my opinion of course. Outside of This I Love, nothing else is very memorable. Bucket is amazing on almost everything he touches of course. As for the NITL singles, Perhaps and Hard Skool absolutely sound closer to UYI than CD. Even the riff and overall music up until the stupid breakdown of Absurd are more like what I would expect of a punkish Guns song. Hell, even The General could have been an epic song if it actually went anywhere. If only someone could convince Axl to let a major producer take charge for an NITL album

  36. jokes aside, and I can only speak for myself, it’s not about bad guitarists rather than the prefered styles and the overall sound of CD. And still I enjoy half of that record. But when I compare the NITL singles to the leaked ones then to me the official released versions are nearer to the GNR sound and no wonder because Slash’s sound was added. It’s not necessarily a quality thing.

  37. Question for native English speakers: As a non native speaker, although I think I have adequate comprehension skills in English, I sometimes look up a word or expression, even if I think I know what it means, to make sure I fully understand what is being said/written. So when Slash said (in the recent Classic Rock interview) that a new GN'R record has been "on the books" for a while ("and should start coming together"), I looked it up, e.g. here: But I saw that everybody in the other thread interpreted it as been "planned" or "thought about", and I was wondering if it could mean what one of the definitions in the dictionary says It's not about getting hopes up or anything like that (I don't do that - and I'm generally neither optimistic or pessimistic), just a genuine question

  38. Ryan Garcia is taking the piss if he thinks using the excuse of "I don't even know where to get ostarine" is going to fly. Likewise Connor Benn and the Enclomiphene excuse of eating too many eggs. I am the most straight laced guy out there. I've never so much as touched a cigarette, and I've been drunk once in my life. I have ostarine, cardarine and enclomiphene in my sports bag right at this minute. Bull. Shit. does a sportsman not know where to source SARMS.

  39. Because his behavior is better explained by pointing to his insecurities, long periods of depressions, manic periods, and a possible belief that rehearsals do more bad than good. Furthermore, there is nothing lazy about doing 3 hour shows when a lot less would be enough, and stepping in for AC/DC, especially considering Axl's stage fright. And finally, if he was truly lazy and that was a distinct part of his personality which shaped his behavior, that would have been pointed out by people around him, especially when people were attacking him in the media. He has been called all kinds of things, but as far as I can recall, never lazy by anyone he has feuded with. On the contrary, people - including Dizzy, Bumblefoot, Dj, Angus Young and Alan Niven - have made a point about telling about how hard he works. To me it is clear that people who simplify this to Axl being "lazy" are themselves being intellectual lazy. They are either unable or unwilling to accept a much more complex explanation for what they observe. Which is human nature - we simply things so we don't have to deal with complexities that are beyond us, it's a coping mechanism for simpletons to navigate in a world that is too complex.
