A lot of older singers can't do what they did when they were younger. It's a fact of life, but Axl tries his best and the guy is still magic on stage.

I've heard some performances when Axl was in his 20's and early 30's and by the end of the show his voice was shot. lol

Anyway, I love watching GNR perform. it's them and that's all that matters.

Geoff Tate of Queensryche said he doesn't perform the early stuff because he can't hit the high notes anymore, so it's just the way it is.

But he's still Axl Rose!

geoff tate is touring playing the.whole.rwge for.order qnd empire album in the same concert

The first thought that came to my mind was maybe Axl should have a 1 on 1 with Steven Tyler to see what Steven does to keep his voice muscle warmed up. I feel like Steven is able to at least make more of the Aerosmith "yells" work better with how he sings, maybe he has a few pointers for Axl. Maybe it would lead to a coheadline stadium tour when Steven gets better like the one Motley Crue and Def Leppard are doing... ha ha ha ha

They should cancel the rest of the tour, stop touring the greatest hits for umpteenth time, Axl should have a rest, and they should work on releasing new fucking music. But since it's GNR, they'll do the exact opposite.

Newer music in a range that fits his current vocal capabilities would help a bit. Having a few new songs where he's not trying to sing like his 25 year old self can help relieve the vocal strain.

Marc Labelle would be my choice if it was to fill a show or two. End of the day Axl is GNR and people aren't paying to see GNR without Axl. Of Course Slash sells tickets too, but come on!

Best option is rest the voice, cancel a few shows and then significantly pair back the set list, hit the big numbers and show pieces but leave out anything unnecessary or straining. They need to play 2/2.5hrs max while his voice gets strong again, once he's back in vocal shape go crazy... but I'd be looking at any double night and cancelling the 2nd night

Or he could just sing in the lower octave for the next two weeks and get help from Melissa for necessary high notes.

After the European tour he can see a specialist and see what can or needs to be done.

There's no saying that he should be singing at all, high or low registers. If the doc says vocal rest that means vocal rest no pressure on the vocal chords, not even talking.

Best option is vocal rest with cancellations, shorten the sets when he gets the all clear and see a specialist immediately. Considering GNR are out for the remainder of the year and probably booking for next summer, his vocal health isn't something to kick down the line.

Final thought, we don't know the severity of any of this, so talk of retirement, cancellation of the entire tour, vocal surgeries etc... it's a bit much.

I checked the live videos from saturday and the "break" was in civil war i believe. Very good voice in the second half of the song with Melissa with nice chorus.

Its sadly we cant share videos to talk about it... but u can search on YT.

I hope Axl get well. I send to him good vibes!!!!

Why everyone here assumes the high notes are gone forever? He rests some more days, gets a vocal coach and he'll keep going. Not the first he blows his voice.

My bet is that Mickey will come back since you can't really sing Jungle or SCOM with a lower register and they won't stop playing them. At least I hope that Axl learns from this and at least reduces it, keeps Mickey at minimun and sings some songs like Estranged, Civil War, YCBM fully in his normal voice.

He should get as healthy as possible. Lose all the excess weight. Hire a trainer (jogging daily like his life depends on it) and a 24/7 nutritionist to prepare all his food. Stop smoking/drinking if he is. Seek professional medical help for his vocal chords and if possible, get surgery on them, then hire a renowned vocal coach to prevent further damage. If that means mickey... then so be it.

And if all that fails... retire.

Exactly. This era of the band has run its course. My dream scenario is they give Axl 6 months or a year to get his body and voice back in shape and then do a show or two with the Appetite 5, record it, release it as a live album and then retire GNR for good. Makes sense right? But as we all know, common sense with this band is null and void.

I'd love to hear Taylor Momsen doing some GNR covers, but GNR having co-vocalists...fuck no. Just no. This seems like a massive overreaction for something that most singers go through (assuming Axl's voice is a beat up and not finished with age).

If Axl can't sing the full set anymore, as the line-up is currently, then they need to call it a day and retire. And I'm pretty sure that's exactly what Axl would do. He wouldn't even entertain someone filling in on co-lead. It's a suggestion made by someone who seemingly has never understood how possessive Axl is over GNR.

Way too much money on the table to do this. Slash and duff can say they are in it for the music but when you are playing 500 seat clubs in duffs case and 3000 seat theaters in slash’s case breaking even at best. It’s in their best interest to keep this train going. If the band actually did what was in the fans best interest…nevermind it’s all been said a million times.

This tour has now been going on for 6 years. I'm sure they are set for life with the money they have earned in that time span. Now it's time to give the fans what they want.

As many others have said, Melissa and Duff. It's best for internal harmony and cohesion, because they could re-arrange things that are already there. There'd be the least amount of unknown variables and road-testing is possible without any additional hassle. On the other hand, throwing in a new vocalist would be a coin-toss which could backfire in a lot of different ways.

But this is Guns. Axl will continue to wheeze and puff his way through the sets, and regular service will resume.
