Its just disappointing to see a band that was so ambitious and balls out in their prime coast for a decade plus now and rest on their laurels. They're a band that made a hard edged, darker debut than all the glam bands at the time.

They put 100% into their live shows, and were ambitious enough to make their follow-up to AFD 2 albums with different sounds and styles. They spent money making ambitious videos to promote the UYI albums that have withstood the test of time.

None of that is represented by the current band who's sole purpose is touring to make huge sums of money. There's nothing resembling a creative drive like other bands who've been around as long if not longer and the years going by only magnify it.

GNR are playing with their Laurels, not resting on their Laurels. There's a big difference. Resting on their Laurels would have been if they made only Appetite For Destruction and lived off that Album's Royalties for 36 years and did nothing else. Playing with their Laurels is what their doing now. They are still working, it's just that they haven't released a new album in 15 years. To put this in perspective, a newborn that was born when Chinese Democracy was released, which is the last Album  is now in HIGH SCHOOL. It would be nice if they'd stop playing with their Laurels and release a brand new album.

I'm thankful that they released the Sound City Session in a very good quality and put out two full concerts from Ritz '91 and Vegas '92. I like the bonus tracks from Rio, London, (Tokyo) and Paris. The joy of new tracks from London is big for me. It's just a question of how many fans from the GN'R heyday have not experienced this great material. RIP those people.

I don't consider 1 album a lot of stuff. He's recorded ideas, like the village leaks and he's done nothing with them. With the exception of Hard School and Absurd he's released fuck all.

you're talking about released music. it's not because a song is not commercialised that it doesn't exists.

Ok, so we know this criticism has been levelled at us in the past. Out of all the gripes we have, what’s your main beef with this band?

For me, it’s lack of new music.

How about you folks?

Same as you, though more specifically, lack of releases from the CD era.

After all the issues and delays we finally got CD in 2008.  I really thought this may spark a follow up as we have been promised by every one of the revolving band members. It is now 15 years after CD.  So hard to believe they have wasted so many good years.  I know this is a nostalgia act now, but it is so disappointing that Axl has no creativity left and no interest in creating.

yourcrazy Hang about , You can't say that. A person is born with that. It is not something that just goes.  How do you know  what he is thinking?

None of us really know all the detail, so I’m not placing blame. But the potential for an original 5 reunion not coming to fruition. When I heard slash and axl were reuniting I had little doubt an original 5 reunion would happen. Here where we are 7 years later and it’s no closer to happening.

So you're saying that Axl has completed stuff ready for release? or do you mean the CD leftovers? Either way, I admire your optimism.

My $0.02.

All that fucking music. ALL THAT FUCKING MUSIC. Just sitting there on a hard drive in Malibu. All that fucking music that would bring joy and happiness to so many guns fans’ lives. All of it…hoarded. By Axl fucking Rose.

Do you know for sure he is hoarding his art? i mean ..there are sooo many loop holes in that industry right? .. I do feel your post's emotion though and it is nicely put ..., but just not the last four words, since we cannot be sure.

To be fair I think Axl is the only one not interested in releasing new music. How many years ago did CD come out?

That's pretty much my point. There's nothing stopping them, so really it's down to choice or lack of ability from all or a subset of the band. And we all know who the issue is!

there was a complete album who was ready to launch just before Slash & Duff rejoined, so yes, that was the plan. then, the reunion happened, which I'm pretty certain you're ok with, and plans changed. plus, we had 3 years of pandemic, it didn't help to accelerate things.

Very thoughtful post . COVID pushed everything back beyond belief :(

I was initially excited about the reunion. That novelty wore off a few years ago.

How do you know there was an album ready to launch?

Definitely the lack of new music.

we know the material is there, we know the band is capable of writing and recording additional material. Axl wasted years when he was in his prime, he slept on the opportunity to release music with buckethead and brain, he watered down the legacy of GnR by not releasing enough music.

There was never a complete album “ready to launch” outside of CD which DID launch. What there was, was a retroactive excuse, just like the pandemic being an excuse of why material could not be released. If looking for excuses why things did not happen, there’s plenty of them in GNR. But the reason why things didn’t happen fall solely on Axl.

There may be enough material presently to fill an album but it would be an album of essentially all B sides. In other words, an album full of B and C level material. And I’m more than certain Axl is very well aware of this. I tend to believe that Axl never pulled off all the vocal recordings that he needed to complete all those tracks. Outside of the tracks overdubbed by Slash and Duff, there is nothing else in the wings that will ever see the light of day.
