Looks like the Reddit mods are busy nuking all “General” related chats on the GNR subredddit. Hahahahahaha

Lol you can bet they’re doing that whilst listening to the tracks

The General has Brain all over it. You can definitely tell it's got some hip hop elements and see how it was an easy song to "remix" for the old tour intro.

Both weird as fuck songs and everything I loved about Chinese Democracy. Good stuff. Obviously recency bias, but they are stronger than the Village Session songs, especially Monsters.

How long before someone complains about Slash’s solo in “Monsters”?

No it's epic. His bestvwork since the reunion. Very old school but also very inspired. I don't think anyone will complain.

Makes you wonder how much else is out there. They had some pretty awesome instrumentals like Oklahoma, Me And My Elvis and Zodiac too that supposedly have vocal versions. So much time and effort spent on quality stuff that's been locked away for two decades for no apparent reason

Slash’s solo in “Monsters” fits the vibe of the song. I’ve been listening on headphones but switched it up to my sound system so I could really crank it. “Monsters” is top tier. The entire song. I just love it so much. “The General” is good too, but first impression has me playing “Monsters” twice as much.

At first hearing The General I was underwhelmed but after like so many listens already, once you strip away the hype build up and know what you are getting, I quite like it.  Its creepy and unsettling and paired with the more rocking second half with Monsters I do think it is deserving of the "big guns" moniker

Agree with all this.

Gotta say that Monsters bought a big smile to my face. That voice, that guitar..

I wonder about the lyrics of the two halves. Are they describing two sides of an abusive relationship? (That is my hot take after listening through once).

imho has that hard to describe melancholy vibe like Slash was sometimes able to get from extended Patience electric live solos circa 1992, but with some Serial killer (solo album track from 1999) tonalities sprinkled, which is absolutely great, nearly perfect balance of noodling and melody achieved there. This is assuming it is really Slash, cause these days some youtubers are doing better Slash style improvs than Slash himself, lol
