You are entitled to your opinion as much as anyone - FWIW I think you are pretty wrong on much of what you say (apart from the point about reusing much of the 2000 vocals….which I’m ok with actually) but ultimately we will only know once other stuff is released.

The big issue I have with your argument is that Hardschool, Atlas Rise and Perhaps were all just as ready to be tweaked by Duff and Slash for release. So they could have easily just went with one of them and fired it out but chose something more controversial because they like it and enjoy playing it live. Silkworms was no more ‘done’ than those other three. 🤷🏼‍♂️

IMO - it’s just a release of a song they really like and has improved for many immeasurably from what a handful were aware of from 2001.

About Absurd, I think GNR is just testing the waters. Just to feel how is the reception of a throw away song (as much as anyone likes Absurd, it's hardly something that was supposed to be more than a fun song) and release the pressure of upcoming new stuff. 

It might be about the business side too, to see how to work with this more contemporary approach of releasing singles every month or so and then a full length album. Who knows.

Honestly, I hope this isn't there way of testing the waters. I want them to be encouraged to release new music. By just randomly dropping a single that is a little vulgar with no real promotion or hype, it's not going to get a MASSIVE "oh my god the real GNR is back" response. It's going to get a confused and mixed response. I just hope they aren't discouraged by how this single release went. It was done in a really stupid way that would only make sense if this was a b-side or something that isn't on the album. If that's what Absurd is (and it isn't accord to Beta...), then I kind of get it. But it's been used very poorly to build hype (except on this forum).

The Better Video Treatment 100% wasn't fabricated was it, because people contacted the named director and he confirmed he did submit the treatment.  So with that in mind, the enemy list may be correct.

It's my opinion that he has a severe lack of confidence in his work - hence his permanent reluctance to release anything.

I think either subconsciously or consciously, there is a perfect excuse if people don't like Silkworms.  It's a joke/a bit of fun/obviously not a serious song etc etc

I said last week he'd use this excuse, and lo and behold, this narrative has crept in already when he introduces it on stage.

Thing is - it’s no longer ‘his’ work….any release is an Axl/Slash/Duff one in the eyes of 99% and so any praise/criticism would be a team effort.

If he really had a confidence issue then releasing a ‘joke’ song for folk to laugh at him/the band is a dreadful move.

As it is - not everyone thinks it is a joke or even a bad song….lots of people like it (as do I) but the band aren’t stupid enough to not realise it’s different and likely to have some detractors? I mean - some folk at the concerts only know the hits so you can imagine they would be taken aback at how different Absurd is when checking out the song before going to a gig.

People hated OMG - so he said it was an incomplete demo.

Some people hated If The World - so he said it was a deliberately cheesy/bad Bond theme

People criticized the voice on Madagascar - he said he sung badly deliberately

Going back to OMG….wasn’t it the case that it was rushed through by Jimmy Iovine for inclusion? I think it’s a great song but the mix is so muddy I can get that Axl might not be to happy at what was submitted. The mix of the Bumble demo is way clearer (albeit clearly unfinished).

Yeah I will - I am totally out of the loop. Today first time checked the list of the 2019 - WOW there is a ton of stuff, I only have a handful compred to that.

Like I said, it's not supposed to be THE big come back. It's just a "new song", and the band is treating like how it is. 

At this point, they know it's not about hitting the charts or whatever. Also, I bet this song was chosen because of how comfortable is to Axl sing it.
