ssiscool
So what would you say is the best performance of nightrain overall? As much as I love the illusion lineup, none of their performances holds a torch to Rock Am Ring from '06. I think the only version that comes close is the Marquee 87. The 06-10 lineup really was firing on all cylinders with Nightrain Edited December 10, 2020 by ssiscool
Gibson87
Best performace? My personal opinion is Download 2006. That '06 lineup was insane. 1
James Bond
Rock Am Ring is probably Axl's best ever vocal performance of it. Download 2006 is also pretty strong but I think RAR edges it out overall.

Dean
The 2006 lineup were phenomenal doing Nightrain, the only thing missing was Bucket's solo and it would have been perfect.
jamillos
Argentina 93 is one of the best ones for me.
Free Bird
Imo there's no good Nightrain performance without Slash. All these high-polished virtouso versions do nothing for me.

nikosgnr
Buckets insane solo (Boston 2002), 2006 in general. 2010 had also some amazing moments. Edited December 10, 2020 by nikosgnr

Axl appears to forget the words at the end of the main solo and just keep repeating "Nightrain". On the plus side though, Izzy was there... Never listened to an audience boot of it, however.
F*ck Fear
Definitely something from the late 80's. I mean there's no way anything would compare.
Gordon Comstock
Marquee '87 (3rd night) is one of my favourites. https://voca.ro/1l50ehzokgLq

El Guapo
As great as he is, Bucket just doesn't have the grit and the sleaze required to do the song justice. Bumble as well. Has to be Slash on lead guitar for Nightrain.

GNRfanMILO
Not sure if it's 'the best', but Tokyo 2009 needs to be mentioned 2

Tom2112
2006 for me was the year! RAR was great! I don't think Axl every sounded as good, and the band had the balance of agro and tightness! 2010 came close but no other era is as good in my opinion, including 80s 90s. I would have loved to have heard Slash playing over the RAR (him in that line up🤤), but it's still great without him! That band was fucking hungry! They absolutely destroyed before and after them! I'm so, so ! glad I got to see that 06 tour! People say this about seeing a band before they were signed, but it definitely applies here! If you missed them at that time, you missed out!! Jakey Styley
I always thought Nightrain benefited from 3 guitars. I’m going to say Tokyo 2009 for that and the way Axl did the first verse. 2006 LA at The Forum (is that what it’s called?) comes to mind too. Daedalus
My picks would be: 1988.12.07 - Nakano Sunplaza, Tokyo, Japan 1987.10.08 - Hammersmith Odeon, London, England
