AxlIsGod.
I have such a weird relationship with the Nu-Guns era. I'm fairly young and only properly discovered the band around '08 and the CD release - and I subsequently spent way too much time watching 06/07 stuff on YouTube. Then the 09 tour came along and there was a lot of hype around that and the 2010 run (which was pretty bloody awesome from an Axl perspective), but that was about it really. It quickly fizzled out soon afterwards and by 2013 I was basically checked out with Nu-Guns. The reunion has been fucking amazing. Sure it's been purely touring for the most part but being into Nu-Guns even for just a few years felt like some weird basement cult you weren't supposed to be a part of. The vibe at Guns shows now is really positive and overall it just feels like following a real band again - even if it's just a legacy one at this point. The TLDR version of this: Nu-Guns was a thing but I've basically wiped my memory clean of it since April 1st 2016.

BUT for me they miss that rawness and sharp edge that the original Slash solo's had. This is somehow a little too clean and smooth for my liking. For me that just doesn't match the song like the original ones. It's hard to pinpoint, but I hope someone gets what I mean. I totally understand what you mean, although I do really enjoy Bucket's takes as well.

Oh, I forgot to mention that - I definitely do enjoy them too. But I don't prefer them to the original gnr ones.

SoulMonster
Greatest newGN'R moments? The release of Chinese Democracy, Axl spending time to talk to us fans at the forums, the UCAP tour, the Bridge School benefit, the 2006 tour... mikeman5150
06’ at the Hammerstein ballroom was epic! There was a sense that CD was coming and could really make an impact. Axl turned into the modern rock god! Had such a cool stylish look and was in great shape, and great energetic performances. Also, showing up to Eddie Trunk’s radio show with Baz was pretty awesome!

In all seriousness though, I loved that era where it felt like "our" band. Meeting fans felt different back then. I'd say one of my favorite moments was the Axl chats. Wish he would do that again. I agree with this-it felt like a different band in a lot of ways, I know casual fans basically tuned out anything with NUGNR, but I was ok with it. I used to go on HTGTH every day looking for updates, or chatting with people. It kind of died off there after CD was released, some people I talked with haven't logged on in 10 plus years

Mikey Whipwreck
2006 Rock Am Ring would have to be up there. If Axl had looked and sounded like that at the 2002 VMAs and led in with that Jungle performance, the perception of the reformed band would have been very different in the US.

I remember IRS from that night (with a really blown up audio) when Axl actually sang that screaming before the solo so good. Found it. The audio is shitty, but his scream... Bitchisback
I have more thoughts than this to mention but I'll start with I think Robin, Richard, Brain Tommy and Axl really would have been a cool fucking band on their own. There were a lot of additional people who came and went but these guys were the guys IMO. No offense to Ron and tons of offense to DJ but the Chinese era was never as fun with them in the band to me. Bucket was obviously cool and super talented but I never expected it to work out with him and I don't think the general public was ever going to be really receptive of him. I don't think Guns ever needed a third guitarist and I think Robin and Richard together could have just been really cool. Really love Robin. Tommy was the perfect person to fill in for Duff and IMO the only persona who could ever fill in for him again and Brain is just the fucking man. 2

siraddam
I liked it the best when DJ Ashba left. To be fair they did have some very magical times, but only because of Axl's genius - without him the other members don't ever seem to grow as musicians in the same way.
