AxlRoseCDII
It says a lot when the current drummer of one of the biggest bands of all time decides (or was told) to take drum lessons.
Silent Jay
Duff said last year he was taking bass lessons too. Now he can play more smoothly with his thumb. Edited January 27, 2018 by Silent Jay

A great example was Neil Peart in the early 90s and again in 2008, that was a guy who won numerous drum awards, and was a icon within the rock drum world. When you think you're too good for lessons, that's when you really need a lesson. One thing I'd like a few here to do is listen to how Frank approached November rain and a few other songs that he played them on the Chinese tour, compared to NITL. If you listen to that, you'll hear him playing behind the beat rather than rushing the fills and letting the guitars push his tempo. What he's been doing on the most recent tour is something predetermined, it's a choice either he made or someone or all the major members of GNR decided he should do with those songs. I would wager that everything he played was listened to closely by Slash and Duff and if they didn't like it, they would have asked him to do it differently (they were rehearsing with him for months after all). These guys have never been shy about possibly offending a drummer, look no further than Duff and Izzy hiding all of Stevens rack toms, 2nd bass drum and cymbals in the early days.
Live Like a Suicide
Practice makes perfect, and it's always good to keep the skills sharp, even if one is a master at their art. I don't see any problem with Frank taking drum lessons, nor Duff taking bass lessons for that matter.

I told think anyone "told" him to get lessons, all musicians like getting different perspectives from respected people in their craft
blackieloveless
you never stop taking lessons because there is always more ways to improve , neil pert was taking lessons from one of his mentors not so long ago . that being said i don't think they will help here . lol unless one can teach feeling . My brother is a drummer and still takes drum lessons to learn different drum teqniques. There are tons of things to keep learning. I commend Frank for doing this. If doctors and dentist can continue to learn new things for their patients, then musicians can always learn new things too.

soon
Ayn Rand is a Libertarian writer. She's often dismissed out right by Liberals. And theres good reason for this. I've often been shamed by others for enjoying a complicated form of almost relating to some of what she puts forward. *cowers preemptively* My first book of hers was What Art Is. I agree with her definition of art. So from there I had a more giving interest in her thoughts. Much of which repel me. But that said, I can see how Axl, a Dem sympathizer, could still see something of himself in Atlas Shrugged. Once, in line at grocery check out, I witnessed an affluent male (almost certainly a Liberal Prof) shaming a teenage checkout clerk for been named after one of the characters. So I'm happy to not be strictly in line with that type of asshole. Blah blah blah: that was funny of Fortus!
