DUFF MCKAGAN Says AXL ROSE Has Come Up With 'Some Magnificent Stuff' For New GUNS N' ROSES Album

Its unfortunate that we have ended up returning to talking about the past and not the present and or returning to us against them (Axl's side/past band members side). In the interview Duff never mentioned past band members involvement and i have no idea why that notion was raised in this thread.

Dude, right now theres no present or future to talk about, the band is a nostalgia trip.

My prediction, and this is all speculation obviously, is that they will have a new album by the end of this year, or at least will start a tour in the fall quarter of this year, and start promoting the next record with 1-3 new songs on the setlist.

I think they're gonna go the Van Halen route. They will record 1 or 2 new songs and they will transform the rest of the songs (being the chinese left overs) into traditional GNR songs with a modern twist. It can't be hard to transform songs like Going Down, The General, Jackie Chan and Silkworms into traditional rock songs... if you put in brand new vocals and brand new guitars, you have a brand new song! The songs I named are just an example.

So it's not gonna be Appetite, but it would be something along the lines of VR with Axl, and then maybe Axl will leave the sound effects there too, I dunno...

Thats a stupid statement. Of course he can play drums. The question if his style fits to gnr is debateable.

but to say he cant play drums is just dumb and another example for this negative energy on this board

Slash just posted a pic on Instagram of Tower Records.

Quite strange considering his usual posts

None of the weird horror fetish porn pics? That's strange.

You seem to waste too much energy worrying about negative energy. Maybe the official GnR Forum might be a more pleasurable place for you to post.  I am not trying to being facetious either.

No, they’re just crazy as here. Just in the opposite direction

Amen to your post!

Maybe he can play somethng, but definately not drums.

It's just that the people who are, you know, the musicians in the band, seem to think he can play drums...

But that's impossible! Slash and Duff are clearly just employees doing what Axl tells them! /s

This is going to end the same way the Chinese release did:

Open minded fans will give it a chance and probably like / love it.

Fans who are still REALLY mad that it's not still 1987 are going to complain a ton.

Hahaha I've never seen a more perfect description of some people here "mad it's not still 1987" indeed 😁.

I think that Izzy should be involved with at least a couple of the songs. 1/3 of the album, perhaps. That would be a great gesture to him and his fans.

Well, maybe if someone can find Izzy, they can ask him if he wants to write new music with Axl, Slash and Duff again. lol

They should make a game of "where's Izzy"? Find his bus and you'll find Izzy.

Yeah, like those Where's Waldo books.  Izzy was kind of like Waldo, keeping a low profile and blending into the background.  Until you pissed him off.

selfesteem is a dangerous thing. there are a lot of actors who think they can act too...there are football experts who never played football, tennis experts that never held a racket in their hand...that is a common prpblem with 90% of the 'experts'

However not personally liking Frank's drunming style =/= Frank not being "able to play the drums".  So I agree, self esteem is a dangerous think, it deludes people into thinking their opinion means more than fact ;)

Just so I'm understanding this - you're saying Frank can't drum because you say so and Slash and Duff are mistaken if they think he can.

Do people really think Frank would be in the band if he was lacking the basic skills to drum??

He clearly has a different approach to some songs from Adler/Sorum but so what? Any songs where the drums are quite specific in terms of ‘fills’ like the pre-chorus in ISE are played as they should be but if he chooses to chuck in a few in places he feels warrants it then fair doos.

It does seem that it’s ‘cool’ to just hammer Frank on here.

The only problem with that is his different approach and fills sound like shit...

😂 - I get that people have different opinions but I just don’t see the hate/negativity being warranted? Sounds fine to me but just think the level of negativity seems OTT.

My general feelings on why axl kept frank was because his been with nuguns for a long time and most likely a loyal member of the band. When putting guns version 4 together axl probably needed some members he was familar with that he knew would make the band work and have someone reliable.

In terms of skill, he doesnt have the precision and skills  of sorum he doesnt have the swing like adler. My favourite drumming part of sorum is his fast playing toward the end of "new rose". Sorum is flashy which i dont mind as long as it makes the songs sound better. My pet hate of frank is when he was putting fills in certain songs like estranged and played the song to fast where all you wanted to say was "slow down". This was in the early shows in 2016 and to a certain point some of the 2017 shows. The more the tour went on he seemed to just keep the beat like phil rudd of acdc, nothing wrong with that. The dynamics of the band also changed when the drummer of the foo fighters played with them as well, that made them sound to another level. Even fitzy in SKMC makes slashs band sound really good and his playing is a good fit for the band. Some drummers and the skills they have can either take a band higher or make them sound average.  I can just tell and feel from franks playing that he doesnt seem to be a fit for guns, especially with the different drummers guns have had. Lets see how his skills are on the next hopefully guns album.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm sorry, have you not heard him butcher the intro to PC somehow? How tf do you mess up that intro? Why change it? It sounds wrong.

Agreed. Him trying to play some of the songs his own way is what I didn't like.
