Problem with cancelling shows is it will cost a fortune. Likely why Axl had a panic attack is a lot of people are relying on him to pull through. They will do everything to reschedule or do the shows, if it was as easy as packing up and going home then they would have already made that call.

If one dogmatic, self assured spoiled kind of a person would put his ass together and do the right job which is to practice and rehearse like the rest of the band members then no one would have to go through a drama like this.

People say "Oh Axl, get well, health above all" I'm sorry but I'm not sorry for him. He knew he's going to perform in front of 50k crowd every second night and he didn't prepare. He had plenty of time. Have some respect for fans at least.

I've seen very simple people from not very high-income parts of society saving their hard earned cash, taking unpaid leaves just to see GNR. For whom we should feel sorry? Them or Axl?

Maybe it's a big lesson for working people as well. Don't waste your money and time. 80s and 90s GNR is dead. Instead go see true legit bands who gives their best on stage. Have you seen what Rammstein and Metallica are doing?

Looking at the GNR planes flight history. It flew out to Geneva on Sunday and came back later that day. Whether Axl took a flight to go see a throat specialist to get a better diagnosis? Anyone have any thoughts on this?

That's interesting. Thanks.

I honestly doubt it - if any, UK (and London in particular) has a much better selection of ENT consultants, including ones specializing in the larynx and working with singers full time.

There are specialists like Declan Costello - "voice doctor" - who's a singer himself and works a lot with opera singers etc... No need to fly to Geneva really

How do you know he hasn't just got a viral throat infection? which can be caught literally anywhere in the world, especially on planes. Not saying you are wrong, but he could just be ill, which is beyond his control.

As gutted as I still am about it its about Axl’s health at the end of the day. Unfortunately in situations like this Axl is never going to win he’ll either get abuse for cancelling or abuse for going ahead and sounding shit. I’m hoping they somehow manage to get the show rearranged.

He obviously knows 0 about it. 0,0. Just a moaner. Nothing to worry about.

Correct professor, I know zero about it. All these years I've been waiting for you to enlighten me that Axl trains to sing like Herbert.

Just watch any random show from 2013 when he was 51.

There are several circumstances in which a person's voice may become weak and breathy. Probably the commonest of these is a paralysis of one or other vocal cord (vocal fold). Vocal cord paralysis can happen as a result of various processes: for example surgery on the neck or due to a cancer invading one of the nerves to the larynx. Beyond vocal cord paralysis, another potential reason for vocal weakness is ageing of the voice, in which the muscles lose tone and strength.

If the vocal cords do not close effectively, the voice sounds quiet and breathy; a procedure to make the vocal cords come together more efficiently can help to remove much of the weakness and breathiness. The quickest and easiest way to do this is by injecting filler material into the vocal cord – this is called medialisation of the vocal cord. This has become known as the voice-lift procedure – however, although this implies that it is a "cosmetic" procedure, this is really not the case – it is a procedure to give back strength to the voice. It can also help with functions of swallowing and coughing.

This procedure can be performed under general or local anaesthetic – in many patients, an injection under local anaesthetic is the better option.

The filler material is used to plump up the vocal cord and achieve better closure of the cords, giving a stronger voice. The positioning of the needle is achieved by monitoring its position using an endoscope in the nose.

Could they be available at a few hours notice though? May already have had commitments and been unable to drop everything.

Could have been that there was nobody nearby that could see him and that flying out was the only option.

Thanks for the thorough details.

My question is, does this procedure cost a fortune for a billionaire? who turns out to be frontman of band that performs in stadiums?

I've seen GNR in Groningen (9th time) and Metallica (4th time) a few nights ago. GNR was on for over 3 hours, I think. Metallica for two hours. People complain about Axl taking breaks, but Metallica have a little video between every song. James has the crowd singing 'SAD BUT TRUE' on their own. I don't mind any of that, it's very obvious all of them are getting older and have to deal with that. I haven't seen Metallica putting in more effort than GNR though. No way.

At the festival I was at, both Metallica and the Red Hot Chili Peppers had just cancelled shows and the Peppers only confirmed they would be there on the day. Greta Van Fleet cancelled on the day of their show. I saw an interview with two Canadian girls who had spent a lot of money flying out to Europe especially for Greta Van Fleet. They were disappointed of course, but decided to make the best of it (granted, that was a festival, so they could go watch others.) It must suck, but we're dealing with humans and they can get sick.

I wonder if people will also say the Peppers didn't prepare because they had to cancel because one of them had a back ache. I guess he should work out more and train his core.

Geez, all the experts on here that have opinions on everything about Axl’s mental health, his throat anatomy, the psychology of the superstar.

Get well Axl, nothing else matters…

It's about sharing opinions. That is the idea of a fan forum. Unlike Instagram.

I mean if we are strategically looking at this from a “what if…” perspective where you are financially trying to save this thing,  while also having a little fun with it;

cancel tomorrows gig, sure, start having Frank and 4tus learn VR stuff, fly Myles out literally tomorrow and have a fucking mini VR reunion set for the next 5 shows. Setlist half VR half GNR hits. Tell me you wouldn’t have at least SOME interest from people.

tell me right now with the current state of this band endlessly touring the same shit over and over, the Euro fan base wouldn’t be like, oh shit lets go see what this is about. I gaurentee you with how professional Myles is, it would be less of a trainwreck then the current state of the band. And the band themselves could save the day. Don’t call it GNR. Give a refund if people want it. Whatever. Its weird times we’re living in, which call for weird answers to things.

we all know they will stay on the safe side though. At the end of the day I only forsee more dates getting cancelled and “rescheduled” than not

As much as I respect Myles, he looks like a nice guy... he's the most boring frontman ever to me and I can't stand his voice on GN'R & VR songs, especially Guns. I struggled not to leave when I saw Myles & Slash years ago.

The only replacement I would accept for Axl for a short time would be Steven Tyler. I doubt he could cope with most of the GN'R catalogue but it could be interesting. Half Aerosmith, half GN'R setlist, now that would get me interested.

Not related to your post, but about the guy who's complaining that he lost thousands of dollars on twitter because of Guns cancelling: you play, you lose. I made a trip to Norway once to see Guns & it crossed my mind the shows could be cancelled, who knows, so I had planned to visit some places in worst case scenario. It's beyond me some people travel far from home just to see a show. It's also a time to get in touch with the country's culture. Otherwise just wait til they come near your city.

This was always going to happen. Axl's style of singing is perhaps one of the hardest and the guy is 60... There have been many periods during Axl's career where he blew out his voice (even in the early days), so for it to happen at his current age and effort is not that surprising. The guy is going up on stage and putting on 3 hour shows every other night. I can't think of any other performer who sings as hard or as long as Axl does. Nobody can say he doesn't try.
