anybody else pissed off by Izzy?

now this might come as a shock to people, and to be honest, me included, but the last couple of years I can't stop thinking about how Izzy pisses me off.

Yeah, a sacrilege, and nothing you'd like to read about, but I've been binge-reading about GNR and any book, interview, article or publication you pick up, it's always "Izzy was cool and easy going, a real rocker, and couldn't stand Axl being late, listening to Elton John and being a prima donna".

Well, here's a news flash

Axl played a gazillion shows more than Izzy ever, probably in the last 5 years alone. On time and no cancellations.

Izzy is sitting at home making fun of Axl sitting at home 96-06 in the press.

Axl did a tour with AC/DC, Izzy, a rocker at heart hasn't done shit in 20 odd years, other than a single cameo with Aerosmith for Mama Kin in 2012 or 2014.

And my number one, Izzy makes fun of Axl for being easily offended and throwing tantrums, while it's Izzy who emerges from shadows when other GNR members make an effort do something cool, rides a coattail for a song or two, puts everybody's hopes up and then just leaves.

I'd say Izzy has disappointed way more than Axl.

Agree with above. Izzy is ok in my book. When it comes down to it, the destruction of the band still lies with Axl, not Izzy. The past 6/7 years, while successful, are not what the 90’s and on could have been had Axl not been a diva.

Yeah that guy pisses me off, and also you can’t scroll trough YouTube comments on gnr videos without having to read the usual clueless dumbass poster that says “they need izzy back to start over again like it’s 85!” even when the video is completely unrelated

Got nothing against Izzy at all. If the man doesn't wanna do it anymore, let him stay at home living his life. But I sure as hell don't think GnR would "sound better" if he joined the band on tour.

I take it Izzy just matured into a different type of personality than the rest. It happens, people go different ways. His acoustic takes of "Stuck In The Middle With You" and "Sunshine" after the reunion didn't happen with him - that was more bitch and badass and real than anything I've seen from the threeunion, in terms of "let the music do the talking". If he doesn't like touring or working for hired hand wages when actually he is CEO level creatively, I totally get it. He basically wrote and co-wrote half of that shit they are playing every night, probably makes enough money from royalties already. Kudos to him for not putting up with the bullshit. His solo stuff is pretty cool down earth rock and roll music and I bet he can still hang a tune alright. He's cool in my book. Would rather see an Axl/Izzy club tour than the Rose/Duff/Slash spectacle.

I cherish his one-offs with NuGNR. He doesn’t like the limelight at all, wants no attention, I respect that. It’s a real shame he can’t be onstage with the current lineup though. As OP said, the band is buttoned up and professional now, Izzy could probably roll with that. One day, hopefully

I'm cool with letting Ozzy be retired or whatever his current status is. that's his business and I'm happy if he's happy.  

 

but what pisses me off is how GNR is such an fan UNfriendly band. and I put Izzy at the absolute throne of that statement.  Guy doesn't interact with fans on social media.  Ducks autograph requests.  Has any fan even taken a photo with the guy in the last 25 years???

Does anyone remember that Izzy film one of the forum members created a year or two and tried to get it to Izzy?  No luck there.  Or how about that fan petition. asking Izzy to play a set (even online)?   Izzy didn't even acknowledge it.  I find it hard to believe he didn't know about either considering I accidentally stumbled upon both while sitting on the toilet and he had multiple people reaching out to him.

 

He doesn't want to be bothered, then fine. But he needs to keep in mind that royalty money is still coming in because of GNR fans.  Would be nice to get some kind of occasional acknowledgement once in a while.

Axl has disappointed more than anyone in the entire music industry. I don’t know how you can even begin to say Izzy has been more disappointing. I think your post lost a lot of credibility with that.

No, I'm not pissed off at Izzy - or anyone who have made their choices and done what they thought was best for them.

By the way, Izzy recorded new music (either some songs or a full album) a few months ago, but there has been no more news since then.

Izzy left the band when I was 7 years old and has largely been out of the industry since I was old enough to buy albums.

 

Some people around here talk about him like he is a mythical creature, but idk. I hope he is living a comfortable life and is happy but he really isn't someone I spend a lot of time thinking about.  People are upset he didn't rejoin the band when he hasn't even really toured at all in the last 30 years.

 

Glad he was around from 83-91 tho.

Funny how you could say the same about Axl, but people here much more aggressive and judgemental of Axl than Izzy. 

I know this won't be a popular opinion on this site, but I think Axl is doing a lot more for the fans than Izzy does. Touring and letting fans have a chance to see them is awesome, new music or not. If neither of them are going to be putting any music out, I'd rather follow the person who acts like they appreciate their fans (stopping for pics, signing autographs, thanking fans on social media, etc) than the one who ignores them.

Izzy is Izzy, I guess kudos to him. He delivers the most bland middle of the road uninspired rnr which is fine when you put him in a band role. Hard to imagine him in gnr today, I'm very indifferent about him, he's living his best life it seems, good on him.

I think Izzy wanted Guns to stay cool. Like a hard rock band with Stones, Aerosmith and punk vibes. I think Slash and Duff wanted that too 

I can imagine him rolling his eyes when they started adding Stephanie and dolphins into their videos and breaking out the piano. 

I can only imagine what he thinks of the whole Chinese circus... 

 

I think Axl could have really benefitted from having people like Izzy around who would tell him the truth instead of a bunch of enablers.

I understand him not wanting to tour, it's not a lifestyle for everyone and it's clearly not for him, but I think it's a shame he did go on stage with Velvet Revolver and nu-GnR but not with the current GnR. Even if it's just for one or two songs like Steven did. It would mean a lot to many GnR fans, and it really wouldn't be that big of a deal.
