That's why I previously said it is as good as on the album. You miht not like that particular voice (I am not a huge fan myself), but you can't complain when he is sining a song the same way it was sung in the studio. Or, you can't argue that he is singing it worse, anyway. One of the big shifts with Chinese Democracy is the noticeably cleaner voice Axl uses on it with songs like Street of Dreams and Catcher in the Rye. I've heard it said it was a deliberate decision but it was a style he'd been using since 1994 at least with the Dead Flowers cover he recorded with Gilby. Axl most of the time sings too clean in mid register, but at least he adds rasp on certain phrases which immediately makes the performance better. Listen to, for example, the 2nd "My hands are tight..." line in Civil War from yesterday, it sounded pretty cool, and I remember performances where he sang it weak and clean over last 4 years. Shadow of Your Love or Hard Skool were fucking amazing yesterday, his highest register is still powerful and sounds great. Or the last "Knock knock knockin on heavens door" line in KOHD where he sings and the crowd has to respond. I felt like I went back in time to Wembley 1992 during that. Again, people are too fast calling for Axl to quit, comparing him to Vince Neil or recently Jon Bon Jovi, calling his level of performance a disaster etc. The truth is he carries the show, and the majority of 3hrs 20min is either decent or very good to sometimes even excellent. The weakness could be easily eliminated by removing 3-4 songs from the set or modyfing vocal approach in those instances. Yeah, but all four of the bands need each other to do a stadium show. Out of the the four Def Leppard can still be a headliner for an arena show. The others no longer can. Furthermore, ticket prices have dropped tremendously for the Joan Jett/Poison/Def Leppard/Motley Crue show. Promoters over estimated the show. Tickets were at $250 for Level 100 seats at Citi Field. Now they are going for $90. I would go, but I have graduation parties on Saturday. GNR can still do a stadium show by themselves. Lastly, Tommy Lee has been bowing out for the show. Ok then I've been to 20 shows since Slash and Duff came back and loved every one of them. Would I like more UYI songs? Absolutely, those are my favorite albums ever. However, the shows are great and I'm happy that I can see those three together on stage. I've seen Pearl Jam more times than I'd like to admit, and they play many covers at their shows, too...and do them well. These shows aren't just for the die hards on message boards. I'll never forget them pulling out Dead Horse and Locomotive in OKC in 2019, and looking around and seeing at least 80% of the crowd having no idea what they were playing. The Seeker and Witchita got huge roars from the crowd.
